Players hold all the aces in this situation. He's had a good season, defended well, scored goals and been a very consistent performer. Any agent worth his salt would advise the player not to sign a new contract or extension. He knows he'll get offers from plenty of L1 clubs and maybe even some Championship clubs. Can't blame this one on the club. No-one can force a player to sign.

Colin Garlick says: "We would have liked to have kept him. We are in Lge 2 and he believes he can play at a higher level. But the wages that this commands is what we have to be careful about.

"If we could have done a deal then we would, but that's no reflection on us or Remie. I shook his hand and wished him all the best, as he wishes us all the best."

He confirms Vale won't get a fee for Streete.

Keeping our best players is the first thing we should do, so it does reflect on the club. Our best players leaving is going to send a strong message to other players on the look out for a new club. We'll look like a club going nowhere and that of course is one of the consequences of relegation. Hope Brown can come good on all those contacts he has.

Streete was the clubs highest paid player,130k per year was rumoured, the Vale would have to match that or he goes for a free.

The gamble was if no one came in for him we would have a good 2nd division player on 130k,I guess that would fund two players, money is tight very tight so we must live within our means.

The likely lack of any fee is inconsequential as if we had received anything then the club wouldn't have benefitted just as we didn't in the January window.

Now remind me - where did that money end up?

in someones trouser pocket.purchased a new car coincidence hmmm???
