:innocent06:I could walk that job but I'm to old now:sad:

Yes, I've no doubt your empathy and communication skills would make it the perfect role for you Bookworm - if they don't buy an executive box they get put in the stocks and pelted with pork fat perhaps ? :smile:

(ps I've no illusions that I could do it well either).

Why are we not recruiting through professional agencies, or head-hunting through facilities such as LinkdIN?

We 100% need a recruitment department within the club to employ the correct people. Vale's business seems to have no design to it, no structure. It's just Norman and a few people he's given a job too.

Even shows on the pitch. Smurf claimed he had a 'Plan B' - which is basically an identical situation as to how Rob Page got his job, after Adams left. Again with a massive squad.

We need to be employing semi-established/ established, young, dynamic individuals to push the club in a new direction - a gamble on marketing and sales activities is much more sustainable and manageable than taking a gamble on signing nearly a dozen foreign players with no experience in English football.

We 100% dont need a recruitment department, companies the size of Sports Direct have one with 3-4 people working in it full time. Recruitment comes down to the experience within the industry and knowing what they need and the culture fit of the business. They need a CEO realistically who then appoints a marketing manager who has a track record of getting results, the marketing manager then recruits the staff they need to get the job done. That process is not a quick one and is a 12-18 month process. Throwing money and staff at problems doesnt solve them,it creates more problems to manage. Getting the right people is whats important and that takes time.

Smurf as acting CEO should be sweeping through the lower leagues looking at people doing well in the League 2 and full time conference outfits to bring them in and give them a new challenge as its likely we wont up the wages available for a higher league club, and i'd be surprised if they would drop down to Vale from a higher based club in terms of job prospects. Maybe using a specialist recruitment consultant would be worth the money in the long term.

The only time the marketing has been anygood since admin was when Wildes was Chairman and he had a team in headed by a lady I seem to remember. They all left shortly after Wildes went. Since then how many people have we got through in that department? Why do we keep losing staff, is there a common denominator?

On the one hand we hear things are at record level bookings-wise, but when I come to home games there are ALWAYS executive boxes empty.

Without naming names, I spoke to someone within the club last year and the very strong feeling of that person was that methods and attitudes within various parts of the club are a major hindrance to its' progress.

Here are some anagrams which are totally unconnected in any way to under-performing departments;

Yes. Speaking from an OVF perspective they were great with this site. I spoke to her (sorry can't recall her name now) on the phone a few times. They wanted to use OVF as a sounding board to get views from the fans etc which is exactly what I felt OVF could do to help the club. I found that team to be proactive, professional to deal with and produced some high quality work. I felt at the time the club was a) getting a more professional reputation b) building its fanbase and c) forging an identity as a club in touch with community and history.

Personally, after 30 years as a fan and 20 running this site, I'd agree that the marketing at that time was the best I can recall at Vale.

Most well structured, WELL DESIGNED, business' use the facility of a HR department. That's what I mean by recruitment, mate. With a solid HR department, with a senior figure within the club fronting that - we should be able to source the correct people and bring in a balance of attributes to use at our disposal. We are in the digital age; people are now spending more money on recruitment than ever - in order to get the best people. We are no exception and must follow suit (In my opinion).

This is it though; apparently we have a new CEO employed. (From Smurfs Tweets a few weeks back)

Look at clubs like Rotherham, Burton, Yeovil - even more recently Scunthorpe(when they went up) and other clubs as such - they are all really well run clubs and there is no coincidence they're well run and in the championship. Every pound they spend they get a pounds worth of value back. We're throwing 1000's away each week on players not good enough.

If your clubs run well and has the right people involved then the football looks after itself.

If everything is sold out then great, they should have time to start rebuilding the fanbase! I sit in the paddock on matchdays and there have been empty boxes on lorne street every game
