Somethings not right ?

Like Vale I Do

Recommended Posts

What's going on? There's despondency and no interest in the Vale but why?

We're 4th in the league, things are ok. No ones going to get too excited I know but this has got to be the flattest season for years and why?

We have a new manager, new team, committed chairman and yet it just feels like we're all waiting for it to go wrong.

Sheff utd away tomorrow and the last comment on that was yesterday morning. This forum is and has been all season a desolate place.

No one comes on here any more, gates are down, it's all very strange at the moment...

Because people would rather moan and this is the perfect vehicle for that. At the moment, there's nothing really to moan about.

I agree very little excitement 4th in the league and a very short away trip to Sheffield u would think every home supporter who can go today would go ,300 tickets they have sold says it all really .

Very quiet on the forum i guess the more passionate folk have lost interest and r now because of years of average mediocrity lost all interest ,i go the games at home but am not as excited come matchday as i once was .

My dad (R.I .P) and my ex father in law were the same went for many years then suddenly said no more ,must be thousands like them .

I think people are cautious and perhaps beaten down after years of hurt (just think of all the rubbish we've had recently).

So I think it takes time for people to accept that this team is really very good and can go far.

I've been massively impressed and can't stress to the stay-aways enough just how entertaining this side is, but I think after years of dross, it does sometimes take time and patience for the stay-aways to be persuaded to come back.

I think there's numerous reasons. Our fan Base seems to be getting older and a lot of kids are drawn by Stoke or the premier league. A lot of people are getting mortgages and responsibilities and it is a very expensive pastime. The other potential reason is that we're still very inconsistent. A lot are expecting a defeat after a win last week simply because that's how it has been. If we gain consistency and are in the top 6 come April, we might push 10000 at home. at the moment, every time we get into a position to do something we tend to lose.

I have often wondered if we should look back at one of the successes of the brief Paul Wildes era and look at a match promotion (remember Burton). It would have to be done properly (all too often Vale promotions in the past have been half-hearted, not promoted properly and then failed - leading the club to say they don't work when in fact it is the marketing at fault).

But the Burton game was built up properly - there were updates on Twitter (I remember) as each stand started to sell out and so on...

It's a gamble (as if Vale have an off day it's not going to encourage the crowds) but considering the appointment and the player signings were gambles in the summer, why not gamble on ticket prices just to test the water?

We've already had opposing managers complain about the crowd "intimidation" so a few extra thousand Vale fans can only help that "atmosphere" and if we can put on a show (as we did against Burton a few years back) you can probably add at least a thousand more on all the games for the rest of the season.

I'm not sure if it still applies but I seem to remember a couple of seasons ago that you could nominate two games a season as designated "special offer" games.

I think if Vale did that with plenty of notice, with really aggressive price cuts (say all U18's and over 65's free everyone else a tenner), publicised it properly (that may involve building bridges with the Sentinel - which shows why it's important to have good relations with local media, but that's another story), perhaps even go so far as look at approaching local schools with free tickets, getting some pre-match entertainment, put on some promotions (it would be easy to draw a dozen match day tickets on the day for spot prizes such as a signed shirt, signed ball etc) and so on...

You even give everyone a money off voucher for the next game, look at putting on a couple of buses for local schools (if there is demand), perhaps put a couple of the squad/injured players in the club shop for the day (to serve the fans), maybe have a text vote for the player of the game, there's loads of promotions you can offer just to make it a special and memorable day...

Then it's just fingers crossed that the people turn up and that the players perform in front of them.

No doubt the match thread will have hundreds of posts today if we lose. Some only post on here when we've actually lost.

Maybe because most Vale fans except a few on here know that were punching well above our weight and know its a matter of time before we do actually start sliding down the table. Grants 110% going in Jan, and i don't know or not if we'll keep Jones regardless if he wants to stay or not.

One thing i have noticed on this forum is, if you don't agree with what some posters say, you get shot down, so that's why maybe this forums gone quiet. Your not allowed to have your own opinion on here.
