GMB Union

Just wondering if anyone on this thread who is a member of the GMB/other union or past member, has an opinion or experience of a situation where they have been assisted with a workplace issue. My personal experience in the industry I have worked in is that they are seen not to be trusted and any recognition agreement they have with a company is a sort of 'In bed with the company' arrangement.

I know someone who is having difficulty getting the right representation because he has put a grievance in over a certain manager and the only rep the GMB is offering is also an employee of the manager. Isn't this a conflict of interest?

The reason that he has put a grievance in is because the manager in question did an investigation that the grievance is over. For any legal beagles out there is this wrong that the union are refusing to offer impartial representation and does the GMB have an obligation to avoid conflict of interest issues?

Unions can they be trusted??

The union are great sponsors for Vale, and full card-carrying union members should get a £5 per match entry reduction, financed by increasing the entry fee for non-members by £5 which would balance the income out for the club.
why? I am self employed and have been for 21 years, I have no need for any union so why should I have to pay £5 more to watch the Vale?

correct assesment

Surely you wouldn't begrudge your club an extra £5, if it was helping proper working people too.

In fact, after some more consideration, as GMB is a Labour-party supporting union, anyone who is also a Labour party member should get an additional £3 discount as well as the £5, and the rest pay £8 more to get in the ground, plus a surcharge on pies and hot drinks and double the price for a programme.

This should also be backdated exactly a week from today's date and introduced before lunch.
