Alnwick Interest

Robbie Earle's Perm

Why not Butland was a nobody playing in the championship until 2 years ago.

Alnwick has already played in the premier league and imo could easily get back into that league.

A nobody who had played at all junior levels for England, GB in the Olympics and has always been ear marked as a player of huge potential.

Massive difference to Alnwick.

Nonsense. The longer the clock ticks the closer we become to losing him on a bosman and getting pittance.

We have sufficient enough back up, probably the only position we do. Plus for the lad himself, hes far better than us and needs to move to get himself back into the premier league.

Its not asset stripping.

so if a new owner comes in and wants to build a team to get into the championship, he would sell his best players?

The two keepers are in no way comparible.

Alnwick third choice at Castle only played due to injuries.

Alnwick played u17/18 England games. Butland played at every junior level and over 50 times, 28 of them for u21s.

Butland played for clubs at good levels on loan, Alnwick a few games for Gateshead.

Personally i think Butland is the best English keeper we have seen for years, the point being he was a nobody 2-3 years ago, who had played 24 games for Cheltenham.

Alnwick has been in the England under 18 setup and has played 6 games in the premiership, he is a class keeper and should be championship/premier league, bearing in mind hes 21.

Butland was purchased for 3.3m 2/3 years ago, why couldnt we get 1m for Jak? If we dont get 1m, he is only going to get better so we would get it at some point.

Not necessarily Alnwick's fault that he has 'only' played on loan at one club before leaving Newcastle and he has played in the Prem at a young age(more than Butland had before he went to Stoke) albeit only 6 times for a side who were losing games for fun. He'd have probably been on loan more/longer had Newcastle not had a keepers injury crisis last season. And he was probably released as Rob Elliot returned to fitness and Darlow's loan ran out at Forest(2 keepers who've played more professionally than him and they have Krul who despite being out long term is an international keeper).

Until a Prem club comes in we are not likely to see much dosh, except via a sell-on clause in the future, but then only a %. So probably better to wait 12 months.

Port Vale are a selling club or would be if we had any one to sell. While there are signs of improvement from Alnwick there is no guarantee that the improvement will continue. Any reasonable offer for Alnwick should be weighed against the cost of keeping him with the possibility of deterioration, injury etc which could mean that we received nothing. It should also take into account that we have a ready made replacement, certainly more experienced and arguably better.

Possibly. Southampton sold their best players and replenished the entire squad with the excess funds.

we are not Southampton, we have not got multi millions to spend or recoup from our existing players. If we sell Alnick i don't think we could replenish our entire squad do you?

Next year is like winning the lottery for the prem clubs, so spending 1 or 2 million on a chance they may get a good player is not going to bother them.

Disagree. Also Alwick is better than Neal.

The Vale sold Andy Jones and used the money to buy two class defenders in Dean Glover and Neil Aspin. This for me was the best bit of business the Vale did at that time which was the start of our good times and promotion to the second tier of football. That went against the grain for me as Andy Jones in my eyes was the only forward we had that could be talked about in the same breath as Bert Llewellyn.
