Shawshank Redemption which is one of the best films ever made was beaten in the Oscars by Forrest Gump.

Forrest Gump is good but nothing on Shawshank !!!!

Noticed no film thread on here so thought I would start one. Watched The Revenant the other night, not bad, oscar for leo? Maybe, his best chance yet I think.

 

Another film I watched was Hitchcocks Lifeboat made in the 40s, black and white, a little dated but wow, what a great film. Going to make an effort to watch more AH films next year.

 

Thought the Revenant was pretty good although cutting maybe 15 minutes from it may have made it drag less in the odd part. Beautiful cinematography throughout and Leo deserves his Oscar finally.

To this day it still amazes me that no Oscars were picked up for The Green Mile.

Star Wars is dreadful. What should have been brilliant has been ruined by Disney's disregard for the EU and JJ's lack of originality. They should have made the "Thrawn Trilogy" but instead we got A New Hope mk2, with plagiarism from the EU, unbelievable lead characters (for the Star Wars universe) and a complete lack of knowledge with regards to the mechanics and manoeuvrability of X-Wings, Tie Fighters and the Falcon which fly in the face of what (again in the Star Wars universe) they should be able to do. And don't get me started on Kylo Ren, the worst antagonist in any of the films, a whiney emo-lite Sith....really!

 

I watched Phantom Menace at the weekend, die to the fact it was truer to the Star Wars universe, I find that a better film.

I know nothing about Star Wars other than the films; they'll never better the first one for me as they'll never better the excitement it generated at the time..queued for hours outside the Odeon (or was it the Gaumont?) in Hanley. Happy days :)

Just got back from seeing star wars and it is awesome, cheeky you are talking out of your backside my son, thoroughly enjoyable, need a pee for the last hour but didn't dare move, proper special effects that loomed the digs and the use of original characters, if you ain't seen it yet I highly recommend doing so.
