Just got back from seeing star wars and it is awesome, cheeky you are talking out of your backside my son, thoroughly enjoyable, need a pee for the last hour but didn't dare move, proper special effects that loomed the digs and the use of original characters, if you ain't seen it yet I highly recommend doing so.

I'm talking out of my backside? Really? How much of the EU do you know? The EU was canon for close to 30 years until Disney discontinued it and decided to re-boot instead. If they had simply said it was no longer canon, but the story arc would continue, I wouldn't be as angry as I am. But they didn't, they just stopped it. Time and money invested by millions of people (most novels were NY Times best sellers) who kept the franchise going in the lean years, thrown away on whim.

To add insult to injury, they then plagiarised the EU, Kylo Ren is a watered down version of Jacen Solo, Rey similar to Jaina Solo. If special effects are all you care about then so be it, but I prefer characters and storylines with depth rather than plagiarism and an Episode 4 rehash.

Droid with a secret - check

Loaner on a desert world - check

Super weapon - check

X-wing finale - check

Haven't we been here before?

You then have to consider the ignorance to the Star Wars galaxy itself. Without giving away spoilers, how the Falcon infiltrated Star Killer base is impossible in the Star Wars universe due to how hyperdrives work; hence why the Empire use Interdictor Cruisers.

I could go on for days, but I quite clearly am not talking out of my backside. I know Star Wars, in depth.

I would never accuse Cheeky of not knowing his Star Wars. I've used his WC before now and I can vouch for him having an impressive collection of Extended Universe books.

I, on the other hand, know next to nothing about Star Wars but I do appreciate that the original trilogy is a folk story chronicling the struggle between good and evil; the Rebels and the Imperials. Except it's in space.

It builds to its climax where the Emperor gets killed and the Death Star gets blown up. That's it, the rebels have overthrown the Empire and won. The End. Big montage with parties on Endor, Cloud City etc. It's what everything been building up to.

So what does the books do? They undermine the entire narrative arc of the films by bringing him back. He uses the force to transfer his spirit into one of his clones, while he was falling down that big hole that Vader chucked him into. Bit of a cop out IMO.
