Congratulations to Jeremy Corbyn

Depends if you believe in a better salesperson or a better product. Cameron is a brilliant salesman, but the product is poor.

Whatever happens today JC will get a pounding by the press, Blairites etc. I wouldn't underestimate the the shift pf people looking at the end product and not the smarmy salesman.

It will be interesting to see. I'm not actually voting sadly for the first time in a long time. No need to ask which rosette you will be pinning your hopes on! ;)

What's your prediction of the gains they will make?

The problem is JC is as much of a salesman as smurf... no matter which side of the political spectrum you sit some things arent palatable but have to be done and to do them you have to sell them... to the party, the supporters and the general public

and idiots like Skinner calling people names!

Jesus Christ...errr sorry Jeremy Corbyn started well with a good joke and then pretty much was crucified...the chump...

.

Whats really worrying is that the hypocrite cannot even see the irony of what his grubby little fingers have posted, not to mention the nasty anti-Christian crucified remark which if an Islamic equivalent had been posted would have been torn to shreds. Very sad.

If JC hadnt been crucified would we have had Christianity?

I will be voting for the moderate, democratic socialists ;)

Sadly not voting today as I am no longer in the Greater London area nor is my local council up for election although the Police Commissioner position is?

All the Corbyn baiters are very quiet today. Not a particularly brilliant election but far from the disaster that most predicted (and the BBC has reported). Scotland was a bad result but expected, Wales not great but salvageable (and we're still in control there) and we 'won' England and London. Obviously the media will overplay the Scottish side of things and I'm yet to see any coverage of what can be described as a generally OK night for Corbyn. There's this grudging comment in The Guardian...

After eight months of relentless attacks in the media, along with carping and plotting from within the parliamentary Labour party and an election conducted in the midst of a scandal over accusations of antisemitism in the party, it did not crash and it did not burn. Voters did not leave in droves; the sky did not fall in. Indeed, given the calamity that was anticipated when he won the leadership election in September, the top line of the night is: “Labour viable under Corbyn”.

Anyone of the snivelling shyyte brigade who make a pathetic effort to contradict your post will quote Scotland, but know deep down that the SNP are more left-wing than Labour, and if they hadn't stood, something like 80 per cent of their votes would have gone to Labour.

London was a triumph, with a special mention also due to the Greens, who got far more votes than the sad UKIP showing.

Even in my nearby Rotherham, Labour kept most of the seats despite terrible publicity, and won a proper parliamentary by-election in Sheffield where the Greens were only a few votes behind the Tories.

Keep calling Corbyn a loon and all the rest, despite all the right-wing propaganda of the last 2 weeks, he did more than alright and Labour, the Greens and even in a smaller way the Liberals have reason to be optimistic. More and more people are looking into Osborne and Cameron's eyes and seeing the stare of liars, and the body language of second-rate salesmen with a tacky product.

Congratulations to Jez,he held on.Unfortuneately, what is traditionally a bad time for the Government, the opposition party, and I say that loosely, has achieved the worst local election results in over 30 years.A special mention for Mrs Sturgeon, well done on losing your majority at Holyrood.

On the plus side for Labour, congratulations to Sadiq Khan.

Congratulations to Jez?? Surely they should have been making gains hand over fist, when you hit rock bottom you shouldn't be aiming to simply maintain your position

Having followed the London mayor campaign clearly the better man who fought the much better campaign won. Goldsmith's sister summed Zac up in one comment yeaterday, he stuffed his own campaign.

Finally after two jokers London might have a serious and decent person in the post.

Why on earth did Khan not stand for leader of the Labour Party?

The rest of the UK isn't as diverse as London and, unfortunately, the Conservatives throwback to 1970s campaigning would work a lot better in many other areas. That may sound awful but I suspect there is more than a degree of truth to it.

2 utter fictions there.

As has been widely discussed, Labour's previous local election result saw the party at their highest in years and so to match that (and win the mayoral election on top of that) is really good news. Need to do better but (hopefully) Corbyn will be given the time to do just that. I was also really impressed with John McDonnell on the BBC's election broadcast. So, no, we weren't at 'rcok bottom'; we were actually ahead in the opinion polls at the start of May and matched one of our best election results in recent years. And, no, this wasn't - loosely speaking or otherwise - our worst results in 30 years.

In England...
