Friendlies

I'm not having a dig at the club, but the pre-season friendlies so far arranged are a little modest, and won't 'build the buzz'.

Whatever happened to informal tournaments, like the TNT in Holland we won, and the Isle of Man.

We could join up with Crewe, Shrewsburyand Walsall to host 3 teams from say, Holland, 3 from and 3 from perhaps Spain - teams near L1 level but names we have heard of. 2 groups of 5 teams making sure the teams from each country were split.

perhaps something like

group 1 - Vale, Walsall, Roda JC, Alkmaar, Getafe games at Vale park and Walsall -

group 2 - Crewe, Shrewsbury, , Heerenveen, Espanyol, Malaga games at Crewe and Shrewsbury

2 group winners to play final at venue to suit.

the next season, have it in Spain with 4 Spanish teams and the 3 best performing English ones from this first tournament and the 3 dutch teams, the season after in Holland with 4 dutch teams etc. etc.

Teams might change a bit if they don't want to enter, but it could become quite interesting, a sort of informal thing a bit similar to the anglo-italian cup - now all these are loose details, the countries chosen at random almost, so nothing set in stone, but worth working on perhaps.

Why do friendlys need to build a buzz? Surely the sole reason is for the manager to see how his players react together, to see his best players, formations and possible tactics and for the players to get match fit.

If it's building the buzz you want one big name would build a much bigger buzz than a tournament in Spain

Teams near L1 level?

All the teams you've mentioned are way, way above L1 level and would have absolutely nothing to gain from playing in a tournament with Vale, Walsall and Shrewsbury.
