Good luck to Tom. Been a good player for us. But now it's a new chapter and it frees up more money for page to build his own squad he still hasn't completed his backroom staff and I'm sure he has a hit list of players for smurf to go at. People seem to be writing us off, before we have even started to establish our squad.

Just out of interest, a lot of folk on here seem to know from "mate in pub" details of Tom's contract at Vale. Would anyone know if Bury are paying him more or less than he was on at Vale last season?

I have no idea what he was on at Vale but I think it is a reasonable assumption that Bury are paying him more. Or at least more than his new Vale contract offer.

Bit gutted that Popey has left, he will be a loss.:(

 

Without doubt we all have many great memories of what he did for us during our promotion season. He completely tore the division apart that season, 33 goals or something like that he plundered by the end that season alone?

 

Loads of memorable goals from him during that season but one of the goals which stands out for me which I remember well was his goal away at Rotherham on Boxing Day when we beat them 2-1 at their place. He skipped through and calmly dinked the ball over their keeper infront of the ecstatic away following.

 

A player who cared and gave his all for the club, nobody can deny that. A Vale fan through and through. Granted that injuries took its toll on the player and he possibly lost a yard or two of his pace last season, however at the end of the day he was still our top goalscorer last season and I for one will be sorry to see him go. His workrate will be missed.

 

A player who at times almost single-handedly took the mantle on his own during our promotion season and for the younger generation of Vale fans who saw their 1st ever Vale promotion he will be seen as a club hero and legend.

 

Good luck for the future Popey, we know you will always have the Vale in your heart.

Smurf/Page better have some good signings in the bag because of we go into the new season with a strike force of Williamson and Campion were well and truly ****ed.
