Pope hits out at negative fans...

Recommended Posts

Banging your head against a brick wall Rep, it would be interesting to see Jenos assists during that promotion season. As for League 1 his goals and assists were very respectable.
They weren't as high as Tom Pope's ST6 and that is a fact. JMW has talent no complaints there but too many times he simply didn't turn up.

I heard the first part of his interview on RS ,what was actually said in the second part (after 7pm)?.I spoke to my mum today and she thought he said it's time to move on for him.Maybe she misheard ?
Yes she misheard. He never said that but Ray Williams did. graham McGarry said perhaps he would come to Crewe. Then went serious and said that Smurf should agree a contract because Tom is a great striker at this level.

Perhaps not by Tom though Beechy. Criticism hurts and lasts longer than praise.

Criticism is often deserved, where as praise has to be earned. Perhaps Toms efforts of late deserve criticism and it's a long time since he earned any praise.

He's a big, ugly get. He can look after himself and some angry nerds who are maybe abusing him through emails shouldn't bother him that much.

At the end of the day footballers are there to be shot at. They love it when they get praised so they have to also take criticism when they're performances justify it, the rough with the smooth if you like. Obviously I'm talking about constructive criticism, obviously most of what Pope is unhappy about goes beyond that.

It sounded to me like he was saying "If I leave it will be partly down to the abuse I get on Twitter".

I've no idea how much "abuse" he gets, but just by being on that thing puts you in the firing line from all sorts of cranks.

If it's that bad Tom, just don't bother with it and remove the means by which people can get at you. It seems to attract people who don't think before typing, so nothing on that kind of site should come as a surprise.

He also mentioned getting some grief from people at the club...I don't know if he meant fans on matchdays or staff within the club.

Either way, to be honest it came across as a bit wet.

I hope Tom knows that giving Twitter abuse as a reason for leaving would sound very soft!!

I think he could well be looking for an excuse to give as to why he won't be at the club next season, to keep his 'local legend' tag as in tact as possible. Just a theory. That's not to say that him getting abused is anything other than silly, but he's never come across as someone who would make this sort of thing public unless it's for a reason or his own gain.
