Two more players...?

PORT Vale are in talks with two potential signings as they look to further strengthen their squad.

The club are staying tight-lipped about the players' identities, but one is understood to be a free agent while the other is under contract at another club, so couldn't be recruited until the January transfer window opens.

One of the players could join the Valiants for training, although it's not certain whether that would be in time to feature in tomorrow's reserve game at home to Morecambe on the Bycars training pitches (1pm).

Both targets are understood to be players who could challenge for the first team this season.

Vale have already signed three players in the last 15 days, having brought in former Chelsea defender Aziz Deen-Conteh and ex-Porto and Limassol winger Enoch Andoh, both aged 21, plus 23-year-old former Manchester City striker Alex Nimely.

The Valiants could loan out Deen-Conteh in January when the loan window reopens in January.

The left-back has signed a contract at Vale Park until the summer of 2017, but is short of match fitness having not played a first-team game this season following his departure from Greek top-flight side Ergotelis.

Meanwhile, Vale have been given international clearance to complete the signing of Andoh on a contract until the summer of 2016.

Manager Rob Page is excited by the potential of the wide man, but says the club must be patient with the youngster as he develops.

Page said: "Enoch has potential and ability, but he also still has a lot to learn. It is knowing when to take two or three players on and when to release the ball.

"It is going to be an education and if it helps by going out on loan, then we have to look at that."

Meanwhile, Nimely could break into the first-team squad if he impresses in training and reserve games over the next few weeks.

The striker already has already played 29 games in loan spells at Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace and Coventry while he was on the books at Manchester City.

The more the merrier.

I agree. If there is potential in only a few of these signings for Vale's future then surely it has to be for the good of us? Signing players that clearly have something to offer and perhaps loan a few out to gain the necessary 1st team experience will prove that we are at least looking forward now, instead of relying on last minute, panic buys/loans to try and get us out of temporary holes?

Our future certainly looks to be on a much better footing than for absolutely ages so we should encompass all this and at this time of year rejoice in our new saviour's foresight. Bumbling old fart that he may be, occasionally() Norm is setting out a clear footprint for PVFC future and I for one am absolutely delighted to be part of it. People outside of our great Club will now take note at Norm's adventurous gamble and I cannot see anything but good for us in his merry madness.

It must be a managers dream to av a chairman who puts his money where his mouth is I can't remember a time when vale had such a large group of players many of which are young and hungry for success it can only bode well for the future imho

I'd keep Brown, Johnson, Marshall, Yates out of that list. Pope, Robertson, O'Connor and Dodds if we can agree a mutually beneficial deal, though I imagine they will be 4 of the highest earners (certainly I reckon the first 3 will be). I like the idea of Lloyd but is he likely to ever play for us again, with all these young signings?

For the love of god, I pray we don't sign Griff, again. He's an Adams type of player, he'd be better off at Tranmere (although that's still probably above his natural level).

Harsh, cheeky. We were a long way past Griff by the time he left, but he was very effective for us in Adams first spell. He would be a good signing for Tranmere, though I suspect he is maybe not as good as Jennings.
