Quite alarming really how many local eating establishments fail to meet the required standard.

Views and opinions please.

Why havent these establishments been shut down and given opportunity to put their act in order? Possibly because this Stoke council is weak and too scared too cross our foreign 'freinds'

But they dont appear to care too much about the electorate anyway so it shouldnt come as too much of a surprise

More comedy gold

Fernlea Residential Home 1

Lightwood Tavern 2

Noahs Ark 1

Blackfriars Further Education College 2

The Old Plough 2

Obviously all run by our foreign 'friends'

Besides you'd expect there to be a lot of 'foreign' places on the list cos a lot of them are foreign owned

But they dont appear to care too much about the electorate anyway so it shouldnt come as too much of a surprise

Do you know what the rules are around hygiene ratings and closure?

I bet most of them have a better grasp of English grammar than you.

"Freinds" indeed.

The simple fact is that some people will eat muck and don't care. It says more about them than the food. It may taste ok, but give you symptomless problems that will come to light much later.

Several people who have worked in restaurants ranging rom cheap to mega-expensive have told me so many horror stories that makes me very cautious. It's good if some places now have open kitchens where you can see the food being cooked, this should be made law and if not practical, any customer should have the right to have a quick look in the kitchen at any time.

More than one person has told me of places where absolutely nothing is wasted, including food left on the side of plates, even if it only ends up in soup. Don't ever complain and take a replacement either, you don't need to be told what will almost certainly be added to it.

These food ratings are a small but welcome step in the right direction, safe food is very important.

He's right on the part that the councils are weak and pathetic and don't close places down, in fact they are given the chance to clean the muck up and not fined first time - should be £1000 fine first time and closure for a long period 2nd offence. But it isn't just the foreign ones, there are some English owners that are just as bad so it shouldn't turn into a race thing.

Abdullah and Shapla in Leek are two very popular restaurants and their ratings of 1 are a big surprise to me. Similarly Cloves on the Ashbourne Road.

On the other hand,I have been to pubs in Leek with high ratings of 4/5 that allow dogs to roam about in the eating areas, how does that work?
