Not a Pietersen fan, but that is an interesting article, even though I don't agree with all of it. Looking forward to the first Test of the summer tomorrow, they have selected an interesting line up. Would rather Bell batted at 3 but I don't suppose that will happen until there are only 3 people left on Earth.

I have observed Cook occasionally and without criticising him I can see how some people would not get on with him. Peterson also has a personality some would not like. Both are self confident and behave out of that. So if they attach to ego too much it isn't going to work. And it didn't a lot of the time and it will fall apart most when the team needs to do something to change a losing streak. Overall, although I am not a cricket follower, even I could see how unprofessional England were batting in Australia - all of them threw games away with eccentricity and lack of discipline.

I suspect a lot of it has an element of truth, though I am no fan of Pietersen. Following the India home series in 2011 up to the second part of this summer, they always seemed a joyless bunch to me.

What we are hearing at the moment is the Gospel according to Kevin. There will also be a Gospel according to Matthew and another according to Andrew. The truth will lie somewhere between them. It does strike me though, that KP has had a distinct humour by-pass who takes everything anyone says as a personal insult. Good job he's not registered on here!!

Pietersen cites the example of fielders being forced to apologise to bowlers if they dropped a catch or made an error and Prior yelling aggressively at team-mates:a tactic that drove Jonathan Trott to erupt in protest in a game against Bangladesh.

Pietersen says: “I could give you telephone numbers of international players around the world.You ring them and ask them about the way the England team conducted themselves through the last three,four years.Listen to them.Ask the Sri Lankans,ask the Australians.Ask the West Indians, ask the Indians.I got messages from Indians and stuff when they played against them saying: 'I can’t believe you could play with these guys.’ ”
