Sentinel says the city's going to celebrate our most famous fan with certain thoroughfares, etc renamed. John Woodhouse, in my own opinion a very good journalist, writes very well about this in today's paper.

Could be fun, though; my witty wife immediately remarked 'Robster Road'.

Any local landmarks, events, streets, institutions that you lot can think of a Williams-related name for?

Is this the same Robbie who claimed to be 'from Manchester'.

Never really understood when he was in take that who was making those rumours- someone obviously ashamed of the words 'stoke on trent'.

Hold on- if Robbie is such a 'Vale fan' then why as he got a box at Chelsea?? Why has he made his own footie team in LA??

I say stuff him......

What was the name of his footy team in LA?

I hope they don't give the old streets new names. They were given those names for a reason. Just as I hate it when they mess around with the names of pubs and football clubs. Bring back Burslem Port Vale, I say.

I know what you mean. I wouldn't put 'Burslem' in front of our name, though; the title Port Vale, with its debated origins and absence of any town or city name, is unique among club names. As a tiny kid I chose the name to 'stick up for', from the football results on TV; when my dad told me it was the nearest club to where we lived, I was amazed!

As for Robbie Williams, I agree with the 'Derek I'm Gutted' take on him, as having done something for us. I always separate Robbie the entertainer (in whom I have no interest, and by whom I'm usually bored) from him the Vale fan, who's therefore on my side....

You obviously don't know him or his dad then.

Robbie was an avid Vale supporter but on how many occasions has he showed up at Vale park in the last decade??Didn't he 'turn up' at an away game at Brentford once with his new squeeze? (The game finished 2-0 to Brentford)

Yes he invested £250,000 of which, I'm afraid to say, didn't prove to really do the club any favours. However when you consider his overall fortune his investment was merely a pittance.

The support he gave the club as a child, the support he gave them buy boosting revenue wearing vale shirts when gigging with take that, the maximum financial input allowed of £250k to help bring the club out of admin the first time around, the handing of his proxy to the supporters club to oust previous board members. Turning up to support and play in players testimonials and adding numbers to the gate. He's done a damn sight more than any other celeb vale fan! Do you need anymore?

I'm a vale fan but have a membership at Warwickshire CCC and am shortly due to relocate to the Southern Hemisphere, I will be supporting a club in my new country too I'm sure, doesn't make him any less the vale hero and supporter for me :)

Oh cack.... I agree with you

If fans are only fans if they live within spitting distance of burslem town hall and attend every game the attendance would be 3,000 including the 2,000 away following... we would go from guess the crowd to name them.

If season ticket holders paid 400 quid a throw it would take 625 years to pay in 250K and he got nothing for it.

Why does he have a box at chelsea?... because he wants one?... he can afford one?... he may even buy shirts that dont have the vale badge on...... shocking.
