Iwould prefer him to stay and play regularly, however as he hardly ever gets picked now, he may as well go to reduce the wage bill.

He goes with my thanks and best wishes, still a quality striker and cant understand his non selection.

Hughes wage is far outweighing his usage at the moment so it's best he leaves despite loving him at the club.

We have to remember his age and if we can get a younger player that will develop longer term (maybe Salisbury striker) for half the wage it makes sense. He's currently got Pope, Tomlin, Hugill and Williamson ahead of him... Is that really worth the big wage I'm sure he is on.

Tend to agree with most of the above in that he's been a useful player for us and helped us over the line last year.

But, at his age, he needs to be starting regularly and he doesn't quite have the pace now for 90 minutes. He is a bit part player now - if a very handy one.

I guess he himself has probably asked to be released so that he might get a final 18 month contract somewhere.

He would go with my best wishes and thanks. But I'm nor presuming he is on a big wage because I suspect he came here mainly to play regularly rather than for a massive wedge and I'm assuming that is also the reason why he might want to leave and you can't blame him for that.

If he and ANOther were to leave (Mo?) that might just enable us to look for another centre half.

As a side issue if Hughesie does leave and I for one will be grateful for his contribution especially the back half of the season, then all the self righteous who vowed never to stop foot in Vale Park again will be able to return, so not only will we save a salary, enable him to further his career the gates should go up as well .

That's a good point.

It will also give more potential game time to Hughill and Williamson to aid their development and let Micky make an informed decision as to whether to keep them at the end of the season.

It may also give us the opportunity to strengthen in areas of more importance currently so this could be viewed as a very positive move.
