Port Vale v Coventry City, 21 Sept. Pre Match/Match

Fosse69

Recommended Posts

Fosse and Mr Carter - thanks for the info about the 63/64 match.

Glad I wasn't dreaming about the song but was wrong about the result.

Could my memory though be earlier than that and be from the Division 4 champions season when Coventry were runners up?

I just have a memory of us kicking towards the Bycars and either Stan Steele or Terry Miles sending a long high shot from way out near the half way line and it sailing over their keepers head and then my mates saying he may be named Lightning but he didnt move like it.

Any info / confirmation would be much appreciated as it would be a shame for me to think that one of my favourite memories of early days at the Vale (despite me going since the age of 7 (1956)) is actually flawed.

It would also be nice to know that senility hasn't completely taken over yet!

Memory is full of tricks, even in computers. According to the Jeff Kent bible, Stan Steele scored in the 63/64 game, his only goal against them I think. The only goal I remember like that at the Bycars end was a blast from John Rowlands. I think Lightening played in our Championship season, or at least in that era, which Vale won 3-0 opening up a gap above them which we held until the end of the season. Great to have the big clubs back at VP.

So not one end sold out ,is it the price or r people just not bothered .

Its a big game wheres the buzz !

We need the fans to turn out even if on the day folk pay what they can afford (minimum 12 quid )if your a adult .some money better than none every business should know that .

Upthe VALE HOPEFULLY THE INTEREST FOR THIS GAME GOES THROUGH THE ROOF THE NEXT THREE DAYS .

Dont get it !

With no discount for buying in advance, I'd be amazed if there was a stand sold out. 7000 Vale fans, 3200 Cov fans is my guess. Should be a good game/gate.

Good point re advance discount....£20 feels better than £22 and would be in line with many clubs' policy of tickets being "cheaper" i.e marginally less damned expensive if bought up-front.

I still feel that it is the walk-up price that will deter the casual fan this season.

How many home tickets are sold on the day? Maybe worth trying an advance discount for a lesser game, would many buy in the Hanley shop?

How is Posh an attractive game? It's not exactly going to be a top-of-the-table clash is it

We'll get hammered by an unfashionable yet currently lethal club at this level that I wouldn't imagine travel that well number-wise.

That one would actually be the type of game to do an offer for extra support to give us a chance....not that I'm personally asking for one as I have a ST.

The point of being in L1 is to play against strong teams, ex championship etc, I do not expect to win many, but who knows. No doubt the bad blood with Posh is long forgotten, time for that later.
