New loan signings

He had to put a squad together however and I would imagine Doumbe would be costing more than Chilvers for example which would have left us short in other areas.

We are certainly going to need a squad this season, not just 15-16 players, sure I read somewhere prior to the Orient game we had already utilised 18 players.

Don't remember too many people castigating his signings at the time, infact when Lines and then Dickinson signed there was almost mass hysteria and all too many suggesting we were in for play offs and more.

Of course he had to put a squad together, that's his job, just like every other manager. I haven't castigated or even named any players, but you just have! I'll stick with my opinion that it was a waste of the budget to re-sign some players who weren't good enough last year and it's showing now.

The trouble is that a lot of people have no experience of promotion, our previous promotion to the current Championship was after only 2 seasons, with few changes to the squad, thus not a huge jump. But our previous promotions to the current Championship were after long periods of 20 and 29 years, from memory. Both times we had to wait until April before we were safe. Also since we were last in L1, there has been a large influx of foreign players into the Prem, which must have pushed English players down the leagues, thus L1 is stronger than when we were last there. So don't panic.

It's a good point..did MA rush into re-signing players to ensure he had the numbers and in doing so prevent us from bringing in more quality

Maybe........maybe not

Must be the case at all clubs, even ManU have to get the balance right, game changers or injury cover? I wonder when he knew the final budget? Would it have changed when ST sales were known and Norman revised the budget or not? Difficult season, ownership changes and promotion uncertainties etc, at least MA has seen it all before at most of his previous clubs. Communication is the key.

I know that this thread has run it's course but just to put things in perspective how come on average gates of 6,300 Brentford are allowed to finance a playing staff of 31(including 6 loanees) yet the Vale are allowed only 22.

They've included things in their revenue forecast that we haven't? They have not included costs that we have? They are paying some of them peanuts (or brazil nuts depending on preference)? They have better non-fan/matchday based revenue streams (especially with being in London)?

Can be many reasons I guess

Perhaps Brentford made a profit last season. I seem to remember they played Chelsea twice and reached Wembley in the play offs.So that could be the way forward for the Vale next season. Over to you Mickey!

It actually does not matter about profit [ suprisingly ] the SCMP only measure is players wages [excluding bonus's ] versus revenue

Its far from an ideal [or fair ] system, but at least its a start

From memory I think their playing budget is twice or more, than ours, it is related to all income not just gate receipts. Their financial situation, sale of ground for housing etc, were discussed when we played them.
