Odd that he states "The executive committee will certainly follow my proposal. Then we will have dealt with the topic for good."

Not much point of having a committee if they 'certainly' will follow his proposal.

Also, he states "There has been a fresh medical investigation into what it would be like to play football there in the summer and we have to take into account the health, not of the spectators, but of the players," he told Sky Germany

So bugger the fans then!

It was NEVER about football - purely cash.....imho of course.

A decision that highlights how corrupt the whole process was. And a winter World Cup wouldn't just effect one year, unless the leagues decided to start a new season straight after the disrupted one finished. I wouldn't care if we didn't enter this one and left it to them.

Ridiculous and stupid decision to award the WC to Qatar in the first place. I wish Blatter and FIFA would stop playing politics with the WC finals and focus on the fact that the finals are the World Championship of National football and not an opportunity to develop the game in countries whose weather is unsuitable to the game, players and spectators in summer and whose culture is hardly accommodating to the inclinations of many football spectators.

If FIFA try to go ahead with this it will cause the professional leagues to split away. It may be the end of FIFA and cause a new governing body of some sort. Before 2022 the professional leagues will have plenty of time to get contracts in place that do not allow for international games - to implement that split - and because the players need to get paid they will go along with it.

Yes, this is the other important factor. On a specific note the issue of heat and summer was raised in the tendering process and assurances were given that air conditioned stadiums would solve the problem. So going back on that is a gross breach of trust and shows total disrespect to the other bidders.

This is the Reuters article relating to the FIFA technical report on the 2022 bidders.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/11/17/us-soccer-fifa-world-idUSTRE6AG2JJ20101117

Note this section in particular:

FIFA's summary on Qatar's bid began with praise for its green credentials and "novel approach" but said holding the World Cup in such a small country could be a problem.

"The fact that ten out of the 12 stadiums are located within a 25-30 kilometre radius could represent an operational and logistical challenge," said FIFA's report.

"Any delay in the completion of the transport projects could impact FIFA's tournament operations. Moreover, it appears to be difficult to test a transport concept prior to the event under conditions comparable to the World Cup."

HEALTH RISK

But the midsummer heat appeared to be the real worry.

"The fact that the competition is planned in June/July, the two hottest months of the year in this region, has to be considered as a potential health risk for players, officials, the FIFA family and spectators, and requires precautions to be taken," added the report.

Hassan Al-Thawadi, chief executive of Qatar 2022, said in a statement: "The precautions referred to in the report have already been put in place with our proposed air-cooled solutions for stadiums, training sites, fans zones and other outdoor areas.

"These are already operational in Qatar, and are being further developed and rolled out in the coming years.

"As part of our legacy, we will share our new zero carbon cooling technology with the rest of the world, ensuring that football can be played 365 day a year no matter what the climate."

The MLS runs from March to October. Temperatures in August in Texas are roughly comparable with those in Qatar.

But the fact is, as already has been pointed out, FIFA knew the issue existed and had assurances that air conditioning would be in place.

The very idea of holding the World Cup in Winter is stark raving barmy.

Texas has many other air conditioned attractions to keep the fans happy and engaged!
