Isn't that just Hughes? i was sure Purse only had a short term deal with no extension.

Shuker and Morsy were the central midfield pair that got us to the top of the league. On one loss Shuker was then dropped to the bench and has spent much of the rest of the season there. He was never an out and out central midfield player, he is a wide man or one just behind the striker. He has quality in not giving the ball away cheaply, crossing as yesterday and invention on the edge of the box. He is has spent most of his career playing at League 1 and sometime at Championship level.

 

If the team is restructured he would be a good guy to keep. I think he is really useful to have on the bench and could play some games from the start.

 

Hear, hear. Some people on this site are really mercenary, Shuker's done a good job for us largely out of position and we'll need a strong SQUAD next season, not just a first XI and some youth players.

I really like Shuker,a very clever player imo and one who might be better suited in League One,he also has the experience we will need.

I hardly think its viable to pay up peoples contracts.

If hes surplus to requirements he will get listed.

I agree, too many people on this site think they are Jose Mourinho or Alex Ferguson. Shuker was a big part of our squad in getting promoted, I don't have stats to hand but I bet he is up in the top 5 in the squad for assists or at least creating openings for the forwards. Yes of course we need some better players but don't be too quick to dismiss those who helped get us back to League One.

I would be very disappointed if we kept hold of Darren Purse. He has done a job this season and I thank him for that but in my opinion he is not good enough for League 1.

Adam Yates- What a great professional this guy is fought for his place in the team and has being my player of the half season since January final ball may not be best but his work rate is what will be needed next season.

Doug Loft- there were rumours Lofty wanted to be closer to his family personally I don’t think he will be going anywhere great player stuck by the club and come on leaps and bounds in his captaincy role don’t think CM suits him but Micky knows best definitely keep (led us to promotion on the pitch)

Lee Hughes- Still think the old boy has a couple of seasons left in him scored a hatful in league one for Notts county that predatory fox in the box instinct will never leave him with service will relish playing in the league above.

Chris Birchall- Jury was out for me when he came back but think his experience will be invaluable with an Adams pre-season under his belt I think he will be 10 times the player he has being this season and back to his best.

Dan Jones- well the interest from the higher leagues says it all for me not exactly the finished article still got to work on his positional play at full back but again experience is key ad he has that from playing in the higher league.

Ben Williamson- For me a match winner his pace and goals to starts ratio I don’t think can be bettered by anybody in the football league still very Raw and will still be learning his football education another season at vale with Popey and Hughes Mentoring him he will be a very very good player Great pace and a great instinctive finisher.

Kingsley James- earned rave reviews at Hereford from Tin man and di well when playing for the vale I do think he will be retained again still learning his football education and one for the future think he will be kept and loaned out with a recall clause.

Sam Johnson- Has got great praise from Grew and Neal I think he will be a good back up for the number 2 jersey behind Neal seen him in the reserves a few times and has done well very commanding of his area and back 4 and his handling and kicking skills are exceptional for a young keeper.

Calvin Andrew- No Idea what he has brought in the area for a forward his defending of set pieces has being great for us in some games I only feel he has being held back and utilised this way by Adams to see out games but all told 1 goal for an ex championship player is woeful would release I think we can find better without a doubt.

Liam Chilvers- With a very heavy heart for me Liam has being a great player in the last few months can he cut it in league 1 I am unsure to be honest but a part of me says no his experience would be fantastic but against quicker players he will get found out great player at league 2 level but I feel he will be one to go.

Clayton Mcdonald- Think he struggled with the Court Case and has blighted his time at the vale really a times has being great but few and far between was great beginning of this season for us but was hen bizarrely loaned to Rovers in the end I think the correct decision to many mistakes in him.

Louise Dodds- For me Louise is a model professional bides his time for his opportunity does not moan but in my opinion rarely takes it a great finisher as per his goals this season but I think he will get bullied in the league above to lightweight I think he needs to play more football but I don’t think he will get that at the vale next season a favourite player of mine but again think he will benefit from playing elsewhere.

Sam Morsy/Rob Taylor (Terminate Contract)- 2 players who I feel have being carried this season Morsy great battler to rash to many bookings but I do see a good footballer in him I do feel he will benefit elsewhere, Taylor probably 3 good games in 2 seasons 173 appearances and 19 goals for a winger is not a bad return but he is far to inconsistent for league 2 never mind league 1 has not grown into the player we all thought he would do shame really.

Chris Shuker- Excellent dead ball specialist and crosser of the ball don’t think we have space in our squad for next season although he is under contract to lightweight for the league above is liked by many and has played a good part in the games he has being involved in I believe he will be given a chance but will soon be loaned out next season.

I'd only let the 3 of Andrew, McDonald and Morsy go who are out of contract. I would then allow McCombe, Shuker and Taylor to leave for other clubs if they like.

Hopefully the rest (plus Griff) will sign up, with the likes of Boot, Price, Davies and Lloyd going out on loan with recall options if needed.

I would then hope for the signings of 2 centre halves, a central midfielder, a winger and striker. We need these signings to be quality players who are going to be either proven league 1 players or championship players who can't get in their teams. I would maybe add a couple of squad players who improve us slightly or young players on loan from prem teams to bolster the numbers. This should allow for a large and quality squad to at least get us mid table if not top half.
