Have you watched vale this year?

 

Boom is slow at best,is found wanting when picking a player up,constantly beaten in the air.Last night his headed clearances went to a yellow shirt almost every time.Yes I have watched Vale this year.;)

both boom & mcdonald have a habit of not getting first to the ball, especially in our own penalty area, adams quite often ******** them about it

 

however im fairly confident we have had the best start to a season in decades, we must be doing some thing right surely ? making major changes is not the way forward in my opinion

He's a classic centre half and is solid at this level. His headers went to them because we had no midfield and were second to everything. He must be doing something right because we are 2nd, 2 points off top and 5 clear of 3rd.

How many MOMs has he got this season? The reasons we are 2nd are a)we are scoring more than opponents and b) we now have an excellent goalkeeper.Which village is missing you today?;)

I meant classic as in an of fashioned centre half, win it and hoof it, or head it/stick it in row Z. Or over the stand.

 

McCoombe is solid and consistently good. He's our stand in captain and righty so.

We're second in the league and doing well, so I don't want to be too harsh on any of the players. But, if we go up a level, there's no way we could cope with two slow centre halves in my opinion and we would need to make sure we bought a more technical and pacy centre back.

 

They can do a job at this level, but I would fear for our survival in the league above with a McCombe/MacDonald centre back pairing.

If Micky Adams thinks he is in the best 2 central defenders we have then I will take his word for it, he is the man who sees them day in day out and knows what is best for the team, hence the position we are now in.

Old fashioned is probably the right description Dave.I think, as was proved by Davis,we have a centre half who can win a ball and knock it off to a Vale player in 2 movements and quickly.McCombe is ok at what he does but very limited.Maybe it's too early to put Joe in against an old sea dog like Akinfenwa,but in a race Joe would beat him hands down.Boom and Akinfenwa probably a dead heat?Owen didn't have the best of seasons last season mostly due to injury,could be the time now to give him a run out.
