Cardiff v Port Vale - Match Thread

Vale don't have the time to do that, if they want to bounce back up first attempt.

Also do our current coaches have the ability to find the player deep deep inside Sherif

Thats what S T referred to last week. If he is not ready yet and still young then Everton is the place to be to find his quality in a game and then, when he is ready, loan him out.

He is certainly not ready for the Vale to play him in league football and do our coaches really have the ability ? You are spot on

I would hate to be the manager that out moored moore.

Be one hell of a dinner party. Probably send a glass eye to sleep.

You are spot on. He's still bitter no one cares who he is, despite, in his own mind, him being the saviour of the football club because he held a clandestine meeting in a pub and egged other people on to get rid of Bill Bratt.

He's probably bitter that we haven't bulldozed the Sproson statue and built on of him instead.

Not sure why you quoted my post since I said the Jury is still out for me on Brady. I'm much rather on the fence with him.

You can still give an opinion on the football on view though and  most times it was like Moore never left. Negative tactics , slow boring football going side to side and backwards passing with the goalkeeper smashing the ball back out for a throw in. trying to find the lone striker who's not had a touch of the ball for 30 minutes because no one can make a decent forward ball or look for the run on the flanks for the winger to get a decent cross in.

Maybe he can change it around with a good summer and recruitment.

But I really don't think I have in me to watch another season with 5 at the back and another Brown/Faal striker starting uptop

The only thing I'd say here is a lot of teams do the backwards, sideways pass thing before lumping it (Peterborough being a good example), but they have recruited better players than us, so when they can pass through teams, it tends to work, whereas we recruited inferior players who cant play so lump it and have no other way of playing.

I agree about the 5 at the back thing, I dont want to see it either, Id much rather get back to a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 and get the ball to some exciting wingers who can get people off their seats.

17 million in debt.
Clueless owners.
Can’t score a goal.
No sellable assets.
No hype to buy a season ticket other than sheer faith.
A CEO who belongs in a classroom at a school I wouldn’t send any child to.
Back in league two.
Bromley in a league higher.
Players who put in performances from Wolstanton Marsh.
Hundreds of staff who are robbing a living.

Listen fella. I have always been real.
Don’t like it? I couldn’t give a monkeys toss.
I ain’t “full of myself”. You just don’t like the <ovf censored> truth.
Like some of this fanbase.

So go buy your season ticket.
Go to Twitter and Facebook and tell everyone you’ve renewed.
Tell them all you’ll be with the club through thick and thin.
Carry on making out as your Vales number one fan.
And keep on “supporting the boys”.

In the meantime, some of us will raise concerns.
Rightly or wrongly.
But then that’s up to you to debate instead of taking a personal attack without any substance to it.

Debate me all you want. I’ve been through Bratt and Norman on here and had dogs abuse for pointing out the obvious.

I say what I see and will never be ashamed to say it.
And I am sure you as a fan, if you are, is hurting right now.
Don’t attack me.
Take a look at why YOUR club has been relegated and is 17 million in debt in league two again.

Port Vale football club is in a mess.

A massive mess.

I’m a lot happier with his style of play than Moore and a lot happier than you seem to be- never a good word to say

We have scored 12 goals in the last 17 games.

Keep happy clapping.

Well done Carol, another relegation thanks to you. Disgrace, leave!!!

Very true points. It’s no good winning promotion from league two and then dropppng back down constantly. It’s not a great deal of progress as getting back into League 1 is pointless if we can never handle it or neither invest enough to stay in it. Port Vale needs fresh ideas and input. Grateful to Carol for saving the club but she can’t really take us beyond the League 1 relegation zone as, there is over investment in L2 then under investment after promotion. Look at Bradord. The right investment = progress.

I don't think I have seen bradys style of play. He has a midfield full of crap who can't pass to their own players, look like they don't want the ball and don't have a clue what to do with it

A big concern I have is that the midfield is likely to be largely the same next season. Listening to Ale and Vale podcast for example, the consensus is that fans would be happy with Garrity, Byers, Croasdale, Walters all being here next season.

My question is, why?

Ever notice about player, transfer, even manager recommendations from fanbase tend to be a combination of:

- Former or current links to the club

- Nice chap, Did well some seasons ago

- Played against us and did well

- Have a “good reputation” (read “stats” you can pull off Wikipedia)

To be fair to most fans they won’t have the time / energy to be encyclopaedic about football at this level / lower to identify talent. That’s what we pay a scouting department for.

The question that needs asking is what sort of team do we want to be, what’s our identity and how do we play, and recruit for those positions and roles. All of the players probably do well enough in some setup or other. Certain players might be likeable etc, but there’s no point having certain profile of players (or a Pokédex of a squad) if we’re not going to get the best out of them.

Get back to basics, and recruit a team. They’ll do pretty well to recruit for a 4 at the back and wingers here - it’s what most of us have been calling for.  But it shouldn’t be rocket science stuff.

I agree with this. Our ability to keep the ball in midfield is exposed time and again. The only time it improves us when Byers is fit, which he rarely is. Look at some of the better teams and they are able to keep the ball for more than 2 passes. None of our midfield can do that. We also haven't really got a ball winner in there....Croasdale is OK up to a point but has looked a bit out of his depth at this level.

I felt we were too loyal in certain areas in the summer. We constantly misjudge the step up and think that league 2 players will be fine in league 1.

Thing is, one or two of them will be in some cases but you need players and partnerships on the pitch that can cover weaknesses and compliment players best assets. Think sometimes we are looking for the complete package in players. But you’re not going to find 11 Tolaj’s who are playing a level above the current the division. Instead what we end up is too many similar players that aren’t a good fit together. Individually they probably do better with the right foil next to them in midfield. But it’s not what we currently have, obviously.

I agree with all of the questions. It's simple there has to be return in investment. Essentially our model is just not sustainable. There seems to be an click on here that if you question it takes real issue with it.

Basically, the simple maths says that we spent neigh on 6 million to get out of League 2. That means that our outlay in league one is already higher than some teams. Add to that then the need to strengthen and the cost of plugging gaps where mistakes have been made means we are probably nearly doubling investment in league one. No one wants Carol to be doing that. I certainly don't. I want a competitive club that gets value for money. At the minute we are a cash cow.

You aren't allowed be grateful for owners but question their actions at the same time. Apparently we should all get on one knee and remain quite.

Our owners are being taken for fools imo. According to the Stockport chairman our budget was as big if not bigger than theirs yet our output on the pitch was chalk and cheese.

They are a good example of a club that has slowly built over years and currently compete at the higher level of League one each year. I don't know all the ins and outs of their finances but from the outside looking on they seem relatively well run.

I still say that the appointment of Moore was a huge mistake.

And as for giving him a 5 year deal..

We now have a squad who have a history of injuries. 3 GKs and no forwards.
