I think there has been an improvement with Brady but even with him in charge all season the team would have gone down. My opinion is that it’s down to lack of creativity and poor finishing and for it to improve we need a combination of improvement in the players we have and some new players.

Losing Tolaj was a body blow and combined with Stockley’s lack of fitness, Byers having two serious injuries, Garrity missing a lot of games, Moore not using Curtis as a winger and converting him to a whinger (quite rightly so as well on Curtis’s part) and having Cole the sulk it’s been hard work watching Vale this season.

I am dearly hoping Brady will be a success. He’s articulate and is as honest as he can be while keeping morale as best as he can. I think he’s doing his best with a disjointed squad.

It comes to something if we think Onel Hernandez is someone we should build a team around. Yes I like the way he plays and he is a class above the rest of the shower of <ovf censored>, but relying on half (at best) fit players is a recipe to send us down to the National League

People bang on about some of our squad having league 1 quality. They really don't, can't string more than 3 passes together and have a terrible first touch.

Embarrassing season with a turgid bunch of players. Not convinced Brady is the answer but he's been dealt a terrible hand inheriting the dross. His negative style worries me though and although we've improved the results, the football is dreadful

The difference with Hernandez on the pitch is that as a team mate you know that if you make a run or find a bit of space then he will find you. No one else in the team has had that ability for most of the season, no one. Our stat of 30% pass success in the final 3rd in the first half says it all. That is a 2.7% chance of stringing 3 successful passes together in the goalscoring area of the pitch. Shocking isn't it? Absolutely no quality on the ball in the rest of the team. Midfield needs a shake up as well as up top.

Spot on regarding the midfield. Which is what I keep saying.

Most of our problems are caused by our useless midfield.

People talking about ojo getting player of the season just makes me want to scream. No assists or goals but yea player of the season for completing the most 2 yard passes to his defenders and fellow sitting midfielders. Do me a favour.

I don't think anyone is talking about building a team around him but in a young team his ability and his influence would be a valuable resource.

I think what people are forgetting is the recruitment in the summer was for a specific - very boring - style of play.

Considering since Brady came in we have had a backlog of games, and he’s not had any time to actually do any real coaching of individuals, it’s pretty understandable that we’ve had to stick with the hand we were unfortunately dealt by DM.

The biggest kudos you can give Brady is that he has out-Darren-Moore’d Darren Moore in that he has got more out of this team playing a way he doesn’t want to but has to.

I am certain we will see better next year. But you really can’t judge Brady on this season.

As for the squad as a whole, we do t have a L1 side but we definitely have a good enough L2 side, bar some strikers, wingers and a good GK.

Overhaul in certain areas needed yes, but not in all.

I think we tried, we literally started the season in a 343, Ojo does a forward pass and gives it straight to Rotherham player and it ends up as a goal. Many times the team were instructed to play to the wings and get the ball in, only to find our wingbacks are 20 yards deeper than they need to be. When Mitch was making loads of crosses from the right flank, they found nobody.

We sign George Hall for some pace and threat in the middle and then play him all over the shop because nobody else can do a job good enough to be a threat.

We try Paton and Cole up top for a few games. Paton delivers one good cross out wide in front of the Hamil for Cole to smash in. Gets a goal himself from a free kick in another game.

We have a massive squad and players weren't always injured so wanted to play, so there was never a settled 11.

We go to Bolton and completely crumble, our midfield completely bypass which was a familiar scene from 2 years previous in our last stay in L1. Mo(o)re poor form and eventually a change in manager, right when it's far too late and our biggest threats in the side were looking for a way out.

Darnbrough meanwhile, finds time in his schedule for his consultancy after jollies from Poland to get some frantic calls saying we need a winger, a defender and a striker. We get a couple of loans (thanks to the glorious hospitality from Everton's staff after the pre season game) and journeyman veterans whose best years and fitness are miles behind them at a critical juncture in the season.

Through all the changes in Brady getting to know his team he finally reverts to Mooreball, because that's what the team knows and have been coached in. A couple moments of magic and luck in the cup and the odd League game sees us not-so-valiantly try to fight off relegation.

And we've been relegated today. It's crap, but everything that's happened has just been a continuation of whats gone on before because we were up the creek without a paddle and just tried to make the best of a bad situation.

We have though at least had a few memorable moments in the season with the cup ties, and ironically the Blackpool thrashing at home was a high point in an otherwise depressing season.

I'm now depressed and done with this rant, so off to have some whiskey and call it a night. I hope that the young lads in the academy might make an appearance, particularly at home at the last game of the season.

Other than that, just wake me up on July 1st when we start having players coming in.

Goodnight.

I don't want trying and failing I want better.

Could also argue our midfield has been managed badly as well. We have more or less 5 holding midfielders in Byers, Croasdale, Walters, Shipley and Ojo and two offensives once. Only that Garrity has spent more time injured and played holding this season and G. Hall seeing more of the wingback/winger position than the middle. With Croasdale scoring more goals than any of our other midfields tells me DM <ovf censored> us hard in a bad way in the middle. We had issues in the midfield last season with half of them being injured and DM bringing on a not so match fit Harper only for him to get a red card on his first match.

Hopefully, JB can sort our <ovf censored> midfield, or we are going to struggle like we have done for two seasons now

Which of our midfield players do you believe are capable of doing more than play the ball side to side and backwards? They haven't done it all season and every time they try to play a long forward ball it is wildy inaccurate so i'd say it was more to do with DM recruiting numerous versions of the same limited, defensive midfielder than anything Brady has said to them. Nor did Jb bring faal or brown here so I dont get why thats his fault but with stockley injured, cole gone , tolaj never replaced and waine missing sitters he doesn't exactly have many choices.

I don't think he should have let paton go and I think he expected a little more from gray and probably hoped stockley would have managed more games but I think a lot of the january decisions were budget decisions not football ones. Thats not on him either Im sure he would have brought guehi, kane and haaland in if he could have.

Walters absolutely can. He showed last season and so can Croasdale as he did many times last season.

Not sure why you're being so defensive of Jon Brady , I'm not calling for his head with a pitchfork. I'm simply giving my opinion of the football that was on display. It's not like he was here for a month. He's was here for 20 odd games and other than the cup games and the odd league game nothing changed. The football is boring and sluggish, if it gets the job done so be it but it didn't and time again we got caught for it.

Is it a mentality thing? The players simply not good enough? Wrong tactics/Wrong manager ? Could be all of them or could be none of them. Maybe Brady will change it around or maybe he won't

But my originally comment was the football on Display was just too Negative and boring and after nearly 2 years or so of it you start to get fed up. Least i have anyway

I have to disagree on the budget. There is no way Ward would come back to England on a cheap deal. Brady took the shot but sadly it didnt work out.  Which is annoying cos I was really hoping he would have at least grabbed us a goal or two while he was here. I agree on the striker situation though and my worry is for next season. You don't get many number 9s nowadays unless you wanna pay the money or you find a gem like Tolaj

We need an experience combo similar to Proctor/Wilson that season in my opinion.

I would hate to be the manager that out moored moore.

Would be the best player in League Two comfortably you should imagine.

Hernandez ?

Quality he may have but will he ever have the fitness.

Without fitness we should keep away, so will everyone else.
