I personally wouldn't want us spending that on any player at our level with our income. Just not viable and I don't want Carol to bankroll us like that

I agree but most other clubs are being bankrolled at our level and above. If we want to progress, unfortunately this is the way it's going. I don't like it, but until the rules are changed, we have to keep up with others, otherwise we'll just drop back down like a stone. Bournemouth and Brentford aren't in the Premier League on the strength of their crowds.

A large part of their progress has been by developing and selling on players, far more clubs have lost out in splashing out. Steady progress within a plan is our only way.

Don’t forget, that’s still more than £500k a year in wages. I can’t see that at 33/34 he’s really what we need, being honest. I thought he looked a handful against us at Hillsborough but that was, what, 2 years or so ago? But not seen enough of him to make a proper judgement.

He’s 78 appearances  in the Championship in those 2 years - he would still be one of the best strikers in L1.

I know Carol loves it when we do well so do wonder if she's asked Darren what he needs and she will try and make it happen 😄 😍

Brentford and Bournemouth are in the Premier League almost solely down to the fact that they have billionaire owners. Wrexham going a similar way. I don't like it, but these sides would be nowhere near the top leagues without being bankrolled.

Not sure how much there is in it but the person tweeting it works for The Athletic

More realistic than Michael Smith I think.

The fact this is in the Athletic makes it very credible, plus he fits the age and profile of our signings this summer.

Interesting one.

Bit of research says he started off slow at Bradford under Hughes. But then Alexander came in and moved to a back 3 and he played on the right and played well. Their fans give him good reviews when he signed for Ross county on loan.

The bloke who tweeted we are in for him has also linked him with loads of other teams including Portsmouth, Reading, Stockport, Bradford, Rotherham and Grimsby.

And Man City, Chelsea, United etc. aren’t bank rolled either?

In the case of United it's been used as a cash cow by the owners.

Of course. But they have a much bigger base, assets and fanbase in the first place. If you stripped away all the owners loans from these clubs, they'd still have the biggest income. Their income is supplemented by their owners, whereas Bournemouth or Brentford's is bankrolled. Without the money they'd be absolutely nowhere near these other clubs.

And have to keep selling players to stay within the rules. Prem league problems not Port Vale problems. Development of players is our only hope of success. Wandering off transfer topic again.

He says we've had discussions,  whereas other teams have made enquiries. At his age he needs to go somewhere where he will play. He also needs to get fixed up pretty quickly, the season is fast approaching and he needs to get up to speed pretty quickly. Wherever he goes the players in the shirt first game have a place to lose. It's a lot harder winning a place, relying on injuries or loss of form, than being in it at the start.
