Pure speculation, but given we need a replacement coach, how about a sneaky move for Barry Bannan as player coach. He is now 35 and is out of contract, Wednesday cannot offer him a new contract until the outstanding salaries have been paid. His playing days must be numbered and therefore salary not necessarily out of reach. A new coaching career with DM may be appealing.

I thought he had another year triggered in his contract?

 

Slightly off topic but vale is  a fantastic community club and any money ploughed into the playing side needs to be balanced against developing the infrastructure and growing the fan base.

Even today the under  16 s ladies have won yet another trophy all be it on penalties,  raising the profile of the club amongst anyone watching and even some of the parents themselves.
 

Only way we can improve our fan base is to build on these kind of initiatives and support them…. This includes avoiding obscene chants ( I ll differentiate betweeen swearing and obscene chanting) in family areas.

Based on a quick count (and please correct me if I’ve miscounted), we currently have just 19 players in the first-team squad.

So I’m sure that for now the Academy lads can make up the numbers for training games.

But we’re about 18 days away from the first pre-season friendly, so surely we will see at least one or two new senior players arriving in the next fortnight?

Never boring at Vale!

Again off topic sorry, I am currently enjoying a (cheap) city break in Belgrade Serbia of all places and went to the Nikola Tesla Museum. Worth a visit for anybody interested in that sort of thing and having several thousand volts pumped in to you on a test machine was quite frightening but fascinating (more exciting than some of the Vale games I have been over my 50 or so years of following the Vale!). But the point of the story is the young Serbian lad doing this demo asked where I was from and when I said Stoke-on-Trent he said “Stoke City or Port Vale“. When I said “Vale of course” he said “yes the team in Black and White”. Impressive I thought and just shows genuine football fans around the world know their stuff and good that Vale are known in this part of the world. Sorry he had no rumours about us signing any Serbian superstars to give some alignment to the topic. Keep the posts coming, reading OVF every hour beats talking to the wife!

And if you think gareth doing his tweets is providing key data to opposing teams preparing to play us then fair enough but i would hazard a guess he wasnt chief scout for the other 23 teams in the league last season. Youd get more idea from reading OVF and that doesnt stop any of us posting.

I take your point about mental health, but if you read the guys recent comments he doesn’t seem too heart broken about the fence, rather he’s joking about it.

Fair play to you for sitting on here all day looking to see if anyone has any rumours or inside knowledge on who we’re signing, but like it or not it’s totally unnecessary, you don’t NEED, to know any of this stuff.  Personally, I don’t have either the time or the inclination, I NEED to work and NEED to do plenty other things with my life other than chew the fat on who we may or may not sign.  You and Gareth obviously have time to burn and different priorities, which is fine by me.

The stated fact remains that numerous managers have expressed privacy concerns over the training facilities and the club have now decided to take steps to mitigate this.  Maybe the fact that some clown is posting team news for some other dimwits to read on social media before discussing on an internet forum had something to do with this.  Who knows?
