Summer transfer rumours and speculation

He’s described as a right back, hopefully he’s an upgrade on Debrah and not a replacement for Clarke. My concern would be his fitness, Meniscus, ACL, MCL or LCL injuries are always the worst for a footballer, I know, it was a meniscus, MCL tear that stopped me playing, permanently.

Jordan Gabriel is the perfect signing for a Moore team that tends to play from the back. Technically a very good player and certainly a step up from Mitch Clarke in terms of pace and what he can do with a football.

How do you know?

I'm told that Mitch has been offered a 1yr extension with a further year depending on % of games played. He's holding/negotiating for a straight 2yr deal.

Why would any player, who's just worked his socks off to get promoted, want to stay in the division they got promoted out of by his own choice. Doesn't make sense...

It makes a lot of sense when you are relatively young and looking at financial security.  All players are one bad injury from oblivion.  I've worked one year contracts for 20 years for the same company. I've been well rewarded and have no complaints. Until the last couple of years it's always been a source of stress, particularly for my wife. Most players earn significantly less when they stop playing. He's 27 next season so in all probability over half way through his career.

Wise words.

I know a manager who used to tell agents and clubs one of his players wasn’t playing because he was injured to other clubs to prevent him moving. Window closes said player straight back into the team.

There always more to it.

That’s sounds a very fair offer given his injury record from a club view.

From the players view it provides no security. If Mitch can pick up a similar wage on a 2 or 3 year guaranteed contract, it makes sense to move on. Having just won promotion his stock will be extremely high so he could command a high salary.

At 26 this is the time to cash in on your prime years and not take a chance on staying fit.

That makes perfect sense from the club's perspective given his injury history and personal issues (both of which he's hopefully now over). Mitch may want more certainty, which you can't blame any player for. Suspect he's off from that, though you'd think any club coming in would be offering the same as Vale if they were sensible

It sounds more like an offer that the club have someone else lined up

He did have bad knee injuries in each of his two previous seasons. He only started 13 league games and there's some suggestion he lost some of his pace. Injuries do seem to be a constant part of the modern wing-backs career though.

He only lost his place because his wife gave birth .

Bit like Ripley 🤣

Well Ripley lost his place because of errors and Moore was just being diplomatic about it lol

I went to Blackpool for work on Thursday. It makes Burslem look like the Garden of Eden. Truly depressing place.

I went for the Tuesday night game in August 2023.

This place on the promenade is nice for a whiskey sour in the sun -

Walking to the ground though, <ovf censored> me. Mayfair to Tower Hamlets around one street corner. I was counting as I was going along, I'd put a bet on there being more settees outside of the front of peoples houses per square mile in Blackpool than the rest of the world combined. Grim.

Money and the security of a 2yr deal as against a 1year deal.

Players at this level don't really car what division they are in it's about earning money while you can.

The Blackpool fan comments on Gabriel sound pretty much identical to what we'd be telling people about Mitch Clark if/when he signs for someone in L2, but with the context that we've gone up a step in proven player quality. He has Championship experience and a lot of people are saying he's a Championship standard player.

A well run club will always have other players lined up anyway for any player negotiating, same as the player will have other clubs lined up as part of negotiation. Thats the game.

The club would have lined up player targets and expectations of salary, contract length etc. starting as soon as the Jan window closes so to help with the budget and the renewed contract.

"Appearances" are very different to full 90 minutes played.

This is the 2nd half of the season:
