Summer transfer rumours and speculation

We need cover for those two. I'll remain a bit nervous until I see who that will be.

That would be my thoughts too. It's great if our first choice pair score goals but they need to be on the pitch to do so. What happens if someone snaps up Tolaj and/or Stockley's back plays up again?

I'd love him to do well. He really needs to work on his positional sense. He was all over the place.

I agree with that. Looked to me that he was looking for work and wanting to get on the ball, rather than spending enough time between the posts. Tough part of the season though.

Will we be going after Rico?. His contract runs out I think and was always good to a come on and burst, not the same from start of games. Young and can improve?.

A little bit of L1 transfer action over the last couple of days. Huddersfield signed Ryan Ledson, cobblers signed two.

Paton's young. I still think he has all the attributes to do well... first touch and link up play are very tidy. Didn't miss many chances. Sometimes you've got to stick with a striker for a year or two. Most only have a couple of prolific seasons in a career.

He's not really that young, he's 25 in August. I think it's really a case of see how he goes in preseason/ August. It's no good him coming good in the 26/27 season as he can then leave on a free. If the club don't feel he'll cut it then they'll need to offload and take a pretty large loss. The worry is he didn't miss a lot but started 9 league games and had 10 substitute appearances only scoring 1. I'd rather he'd missed a hateful, as McPhee did in his first season.  I get the argument he played out wide for a number of those games, although we didn't play with hug the touchline wingers when we played 4 3 3. They played more as inside forwards. It wasn't that different to how Crosby played 3 4 2 1, with Chislett and Garrity as inside forwards. Both looked more of a goal threat in 23/24. I can't remember if 1 or 2 of his 3 league and cup goals came from open play?

He's a nice footballer, hampered by a relative lack of pace or size.

The main problem for me was that if he had 3 or 4 runs in a match onto a through ball he was offside for all but one. Just poor play, or lack of confidence in winning a fair contest?

And he's 25 in August, so not a kid.

He's not a kid, but still pretty young. You don't really break into a side until you're 22/23. I still think he'd have got at least 10 playing down the middle last season. No reason to take a loss yet.

He scored 2 fantastic freekicks  away at Harrogate and Barrow in the cup - no doubting his technical ability. Played 745 minuted for us and just 465 for Dundee Utd, a loan that just didn't work out for him or the club.

I think he would be better suited to a role just behind a striker someone to play off who will create him the space to play in. If he can pick up the pace of thought at the higher level he could be a very good player.

I will love it if he comes in and smashes it up in pre season.Screenshot2025-05-30at13_32_51.png.dde61bc6f40470787326716e84f254e0.png

I wouldn't be opposed to us signing Rico, only 21 so has the potential to make the club money which is what we want in younger players but all will depend if DM was impressed with him and if Villa want to keep him.

We have dealt with Villa over our young Academy players so maybe that will help with things

I’m a big fan of Rico and if we brought him in great. That said for me as we go up the leagues he would need to show he can contribute in longer spells than 20 minute bursts as otherwise it becomes a bit of a luxury signing.

FLW website reports we have tabled an offer for Carlisle forward Matthew Dennis (along with Notts, Fleetwood and Walsall) scored 6 in 14 since signing for them (notably against us and then got sent off!)

Not sure what that website is but although he has been offered a new deal there and only 23 isn't he allowed to talk to clubs anyway and then they have to agree compensation

I would be slapping a three year deal in front of Rico Richards ASAP.

You sign talented footballers, in my view, and he's very talented. Even with cameos he continually changed games at the crucial end of the season (Crewe and Grimsby spring to mind). He's only going to improve.

I think he'll excel wherever he goes. Fantastic player.
