Summer transfer rumours and speculation

DM wasn’t “special” enough to keep us up though was he?  For me a truly top manager would’ve squeezed a bit more out of those players and picked up the few points we needed to survive.

We can’t argue that Darren and Carol have attracted some more than decent players into the club this summer that’s for sure, so at least the manager has the tools to do the job this season.

The Special One wouldn't have kept them bunch of losers up last year.

That’s my genuine reservation. Moore was held in such low esteem by most fans by the end of last season, many thought Crosby would have kept us up. Indeed when he was sacked, we were not even in the relegation zone with around 3 games in hand on the teams around us.

We have brought some good players in, which do appear based on Moore’s connections, but that doesn’t mean success. Mark Hughes was another big name manager who tried a similar approach but Bradford never looked like getting promotion with him, although they were fairly solid.

Carol paying for those players is where the praise lies at the moment. If Moore organises them well we should be fine, but let’s be honest here, the performance of every player fell off after Crosby left and that’s not just because we lost Arblaster and Devine.

Moore had a massive job on his hands coming in after the window had shut, which was a crazy decision by the powers that be in the club.  The squad wasn’t fit for purpose and that’s not his fault either.  We just didn’t get any kind of new manager bounce, he didn’t appear to be able to lift the spirits of the players, who lacked any kind of belief, so it makes you wonder what his motivational skills are like when things go wrong, as they will.  We should note that Moore has a team of people so responsibility is on all of them not just the manager himself, although he has the power to appoint whoever he likes.

It’s a fair comment but, hypothetically, he may have had greater motivational skills, which in turn could’ve made a difference.  On to this season, and we all hope DM is the man. 👍🏻

I genuinely think he is. I had a chat with him after the fans forum about last season. It was literally a 2 minute conversation and he completely changed my view about him because what he was saying and how he said it. His character really came through rather than the media trained repeated ‘football club’ we get from him.

His signings have certainly got me excited to watch football again rather than dreading it and I think shows players want to play for him.

🤞🤞🤞for the new season.

Looking at todays line up with a few injuries it shows that we need to get a few more bodies in that's for sure

We are still desperate for a couple of pacey full backs and a pacey wide man whether that's permanent or on loan we will see

Agree.

Need two more wingers for me.

I think we've got players that can put the ball in the net, but not many to create the chances for them.

What did he say and how did he say it?

He said,"Yes.No.In terms of and football club." Quite a few times.

I think he's a nice bloke who takes 50 words to say the bleeding obvious when 7 will do.

Having watched the utter dross under his domain last season,I'm yet to be convinced.

If this squad can't score goals then we are in trouble

That’s basically saying that Moore is better than the squad he had. Which when I look back at our squad, it wasn’t worse than Burton’s, Cambridge, Cheltenham or Fleetwood to name a few. 3 of those dreadful players are either in league 1 again or at a level on par like Uche. The rest are actually still at the club.

1 winger is enough for me on a permanent

RW desperately required with Planty as backup.

I think there should be enough creativity in the team with Curtis,Chizzy,Byers and good delivery from Sang & Hart.

For me the squad post December was so much worse than those other clubs.I will go as far to say it’s one of the worst squads I can remember since watching Vale since 84/85 season.

We hardly picked up any points after October unlike other clubs and had a handful of games when we were marginally better with Moore. That came crumbling down following  the Fleetwood home fiasco. I know our squad wasn’t capable of mounting a comeback like that.

Perhaps we had some better players in terms of technical ability but all of those teams had players with more fight, heart and desire than us.

What did he say and how did he say it?

In a nutshell Phil he was very passionate and spoke to me how I would talk to my mates in the pub about how <ovf censored> we have been. He told me a lot of facts & figures about how poor the club had been (playing side) over a long period of time lacking aggression and passion. He even quoted our losing streaks on midweek matches, not just over a 2 year period. He reiterated how there was a big disconnect between team and fans and the need to put than right.

He came across as a really decent bloke but he gave me the distinct impression you really wouldn’t want to cross him.

I still think a decent manager would have kept us up. We had an easy run in, everyone else dropping points as often as us. It was a shambles from Moore.
