Summer transfer rumours and speculation

One of our better players will surely leave? I can’t see how we fit Chislett, crosdale, garrity, Curtis and Ojo all into a team, even more so with hall, stockley and Tolaj arriving. Every formation I think of, one of the above misses out. Good problem to have though

I'd be very surprised if Baylee is still at the club at the end of the window; unless he stays on loan. Shorrock is the other player who could go for big money; young and most importantly left footed. I'm not sure we'll get offers we can't turn down for Garrity or Chislett.  Ben's big asset is scoring goals and work rate; bigger clubs will want a bit more quality on the ball. Not sure Chislett is better than top end League 1, maybe lower end Championship. Clubs would certainly be interested up to 200k, I'm not sure we would sell for less than 400k. They are both of an age when they are probably at their peak, so clubs won't see them with a lot of additional potential or possible resale profit. In the ideal world all 4 would stay. Not sure how much we'll get for Rhys Walters. Nowhere near what we would have got if he'd agreed a contract.

True but I’d say the counter to that is it’s very much a squad game now with the 5 subs allowed. Part of the problem we had last season was the inability to change things up off the bench and often made things worse. Suspect we may end up seeing more of DC style horses for courses approach next season.

That will mean Crawley have cashed in on all their better players now

It’s a strange approach, you’d think they’d have wanted some continuity at least into next season. Does smack of them being the next FGR.

Surely you could if we do a 4 2 3 1 or something like that. They can all fit positions in that formation. Correct me if I'm wrong. If not I'm sure. they could have 1 or 2 on the bench and bring them on to change up the game. Instead of us having bad players on the bench we can use it to have an impact on the game. Gives us depth I guess.

Good competition for places is key.

Last season the team almost picked itself despite players struggling for form, fitness and mentality.

Reading between the lines, Dipepa aside, I don’t think any of our best players will leave unless we have an unbelievably good offer.

Way off still. Don’t get me wrong there’s a player in there but we certainly won’t miss him

He could definitely make league 1 in a couple years but I find it pretty disrespectful that he won't sign because he thinks a better side or academy might pick him up. Saying that though if a better side offers an ok fee I guess that would be alright. Blooming heck he's not even got a contract never mind.

I think we can blame Constantine for him not signing. He is deffo going imo but the ones I wanted to sign up have so hey ho

You can see some potential but I agree with you. I certainly don’t think he’s as good as he or Leon seem to think he is. Think he’s dined out on an admittedly good showing against Wrexham in the pizza trophy but what else has he done beyond that? At this point we’re just doing the usual stuff to ensure that we get compo for him. One of those I’d imagine a small sum and a sell on wherever he goes.

Maybe a downside to the Academy keep bigging itself up is the young players e.g. Dipepa and Walters start to believe the hype themselves. They then look to move on accordingly.

I know players naturally find their level in time but some of the shall we say 'bigger egos' may want to move on too soon. I aint seen nothing so far that tells me either will be future stars but eh what do I know

One thing you can be confident about is that at least one will be injured before the end of August.  Last season roughly 25 players started League games before and 25 players after the January window. Some only started 1 or 2 games. More substitutes also means having some good players on the bench has become more important.  Outfield players average about 33 games per season over their careers. That equates to an average of 4 players injured at any time. In reality it doesn't work like that as sometimes theirs an odd one, sometimes 6 or 7. It's also why players have to be versatile,  at one point last season Plant, Clark and Lomax were all out with long-term injuries who were all able to play RWB. If I remember correctly Debrah, Jones and Lacovitti were all out injured at one point. I'd be fairly confident whoever misses out will still play 35 games if they remain fit all season.

He did well in the EFL Trophy games in general.  Struggled to make the same impact in League 1 matches.  He's a decent prospect but I think Shorrock and Dipepa are better. If he stays I'm fairly sure he'll get game time under Moore.  He and his agent need to decide if that is better for his long-term development; or potentially 5 seasons playing age group football.

I'm hoping we are going down the 'We need a strong squad' or 'Strength in depth' approach, incase of injuries etc.
