Didn't he score a goal the other day? That's more than can be said for our so called forwards. No point making Smith the scapegoat. I think the direction the club have gone in terms of our "club DNA" the past 12 months has not helped his game. Playing with a different set of defenders every game probably doesn't help either. Continuity helps defenders. We've had none of that this season. 

His performances have been poor more often than not this season, but he's not been helped by the players around him. 

I think that he could prove a valuable asset in avoiding relegation out of the football league next season.

It was neither trolling nor spouting random crap. You're a repeatedly banned poster who lives (or at least was living) abroad and often spoke of their 'love' for LFC. There was a thread on here about a year or so ago, with screenshots, of you posting on another forum 'supporting' spurs. You rejoined this forum about a year ago and have posted almost entirely negative messages, most recently slating our longest serving player and the best owner we've had in living memory. At least VFIA is consistent and attends games.

He's not a scapegoat. I've been questioning why he starts just about every game for us for a long time now. He's generally rubbish and yet seems to get such little criticism compared to some of our other rubbish players, and it seems to be just because he's been at the club a while and is a local lad. 

If he left in the summer I don't think another League One club would go near him. Just not good enough, regardless of his commitment.

I don't care about loyalty I care about players playing well he is only at the club as no other team would have him and he will play for peanuts .

Smith did OK aside from the gross error. Lincoln only looked like scoring from our errors. I know he's good at L2 and marginal at L1. But he's our player and we must give him a chance to flourish. The current manager has played at higher levels than Crosby and can help him.

The truth is his level is decent L2 defender but not really any higher. There’s a reason opposition teams are happy to see the ball at his feet and just stand off waiting for the misplaced pass. I didn’t think he was the right one to be captain when he was appointed and it should have been Garrity, he’s always been the one who plays alongside the leader like Legge.

I’ve been saying for a couple of seasons that I wouldn’t be too upset if he left. He possesses a rather narrow skill set for the level of football he plays.

That aside he is a Vale player who undoubtedly gives his all, he will be gutted with regard to the “balls up” yesterday. I would never use some of the terms that are commonly spouted on here such as crap, garbage and useless. I want Nathan to play to the best of his abilities, he has had good games, he is capable of good, crucial tackles and can pop up with the odd goal. We are more likely to get the best out of Nathan and the whole team, for that matter by offering our support when they step out onto the pitch.

Some of the language that people choose to use really shows them up to be populist, unintelligent bullies.

You're talking like he's a delicate 12 year old kid with fragile confidence. If Smith, with all of his experience, couldn't handle someone on a forum calling him crap then he's in the wrong profession.

In my opinion, he's a bang average League Two level defender with little to no footballing ability. You might think he's the League One John Terry. You do you. That said, I hope he's man of the match tomorrow and a big reason why Vale get three much needed points.
