Lincoln City (H) match thread - 24th Feb

Can anyone tell me why yesterday  ...

The referee didn't disallow their first goal as their player wasn't ten yards from the ball when he intercepted Smith's pass to Deborah?

Why did the Ref give a penalty when the offence (Jones holding shirt) started well outside the area and it remained one incident until their player decided to fall down?

Thoughts anyone?

Smith took a quick free kick and their player intercepted it, their player didn't prevent him from taking the kick so therefor no infringement. The referee was right to play on.

Not a penalty

Because you don't need to be 10 yards away if intercepting a quick free kick. Law 13.

Because "If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick." Law 12.

I think saying it "happened" is too lenient. I could go and watch Sunday morning football in my local park and wouldn't see such a shockingly unprofessional action as that from Smith.

A day on from the game and l still can't see what he was thinking. His negligence punctured the atmosphere and meant we'd have to come from behind to win yet again. I don't recall us doing that all season.

If he knew Ripley was coming out and he took it anyway, that’s really unprofessional. It is a disregard for your team mate and lack of unity. Hopefully it was just a comical error that won’t be repeated.

It's all our fault. We need to have more realistic expectations. We should be losing to Burton, Fleetwood, Cheltenham. We should be in League 2. We should clap and cheer players that don't give an ounce of effort. It's all our fault.

Unless the opponent is intentionally ‘blocking’ the free kick from being taken, there is no foul. It was our choice to take it quickly, and we selected to kick it straight to them. No foul play, just a gift.

I fined myself a weeks wages back in August for letting Barnsley walk that 7th goal in.

Just brought myself to watch ' highlights ' on YouTube.

Shows the whole move that led to the free kick in the first minute. We actually decided to take the free kick about 20 foot from where the offence took place.

Really was shocking.

Later in the game as well we had a throw in by the empty Lorne Street seats on the attack. Yet within 10 to 15 seconds it was at Ripleys feet .

Reference your last paragraph. The throw in was right below where sitting and i said the same to friends around me when it ended up back with Ripley.

On a different incident in the second half they got a free kick exactly where Smith's was that resulted in the first goal.  Shock, horror, they passed the ball forward and it resulted in them getting a throw in deep into our half.

3-5-2 doesn't mean you have to play tippy tappy sideways then back to your keeper.

On the same subject yet again at kick off the kicker passes ir straight back to Ripley. It's totally bloody negative. At their kick off they passed it back 10 yards to a creative midfielder and lo and behold it was passed deep into our half and stayed there for long enough for it to become obvious they had attacking intentions.

Every time Funso receives a pass he is facing his own goal and passes it back. He never takes it on the turn and moves the ball forwards. Unlike the Lincoln midfielder.

Yes they played 3-5-2 but they played it positively. We are totally uckin NEGATIVE with everything we do!!

They haven't uploaded it (just like they haven't uploaded the last one as they claimed they would, the one where DF said he isn't entertaining the idea of relegation at all. Funny that, eh.)

but this one from June 23 was uploaded, where they were talking about the club strategy on recruitment

Well the caption of the video says it all.

What don’t you get? Why would you ‘shout’ at a side doing well.

We are <ovf censored>. The nice approach has been tried, tested and failed. Moore needs to get into them.

Why would you shout at a side mid table? Too make them play better. A mid table side won't have <ovf censored> moral. They can take a shouting.

You can say the same thing about a <ovf censored> team. It could make players want to do better or make them feel like <ovf censored>. Just because ac was nice in interviews doesn't mean he was in the changing room. Same with dm. We don't know if he is taking the nice approach or not. We don't know if ac went with the nice approach either or went with the shouty approach.

How do you know ac and dm have been nice in the changing room and in training?

He isn’t saying it’s the fans fault though is he. Hes saying we don’t get behind players and boo them at the first opportunity. Which is true. Even when things are going well we love a good moan

But it wasn’t a quick free kick. When the ref whistled Taylor knocked the ball away to stop a quick free kick. He had plenty of time to retreat 10 yards and didn’t.

I wonder how many people who were bought along by a ST holder as a friend yesterday are still on speaking terms with them.
