Askey sacked by Hartlepool. He's not been able to put them in contention for promotion in the NL following relegation from L2. Instead they are just clear of relegation trouble. Tough place the NL. Lots of long established EFL clubs now down at that level. It's really hard to get back to L2. At age 59 I could imagine him finding a quieter back room role in the way of Martin Foyle et al.

He can’t be that bad he got Macc into league 2 on a shoestring

He was perfectly fine here until the end of his spell. He helped dig us out of a hole after Aspin left and had us in playoff contention before the covid lockdown happened. He just struggles to adapt his plan A when things are not going well (sounds familiar to the current Vale boss).

Looking at some of the Tweets on Twitter. Questions asked about lack of support for Askey and <ovf censored> owners.  Must be something in that as they’ve just appointed 76 year old Lenny Lawrence. The man who signed Andy Jones from Vale.

He’s been through the mill with some terrible owners his whole career if you look at it. The only decent one he’s had is Carol for about 18 months. Other than that he’s had the Macc one who drove them out of business, Smurthwaite who needs no further words, York their fans forced that owner who sacked him out and Singh at Hartlepool who is hated by the fans too.

I think Hartlepool and Macclesfield are demographically difficult challenges.

Hartlepool is an isolated borough of about 90k population south of Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside where there are big clubs.

Macclesfield is a borough of about 58k and clearly within the shadow of Greater Manchester and even the Potteries.

He's been trying to manage clubs with significant expectations but limited populations to keep them up at L2 level. I guess they have a bit of an Accrington feel. York had a bit more potential and certainly Shrewsbury.
