Is that the same as he accepted there's no excuse for the 7-0 loss on the opening day of the season? The same one in the tepid performance against an injury ravaged Middlesborough side at home recently in a game we lost at a whimper? Or the loss at home to Stevenage in the FA Cup when his substitutions and in-game management lost us a 2 goal lead with 10 minutes remaining?
Excuse. Excuse. Excuse. Spin. Spin. Spin.

Unless you’re one of the big boys then you are bound to have games where they are shocking. I’m not trying to make excuses but there will be games where we just don’t turn up. It’s not something new. It’s been happening since 1876.

(Some) Vale fans frustrate me. On Tuesday I witnessed booing when the ball was played across the defence or played back to Ripley, despite us keeping possession, but the same fans also booed when the ball was played long and was picked up by the opposition. We are not Man City, so we don’t have world class players and we all have to accept that mistakes will be made - but I’d rather us at least try to play a modern style of possession-based football than go back to the hoofball that we played in the 80s, which was awful but was in-keeping with the style at the time. Any half-decent team that’s above grassroots level, nowadays, is coached to play in this modern style, so it’s not going to change and we need to accept it, warts and all.

I agree to some point but on Tuesday in that first half without having Ojo and Arblaster to call for the ball we simply had no idea. 2nd half, Devine dropped deeper and was able to request the ball from the defenders.

Sometimes we will give it away but sometimes we have to pass back to create more space forward.

Yes, I agree. But my post was more about the fans than the players, to be honest. The players will always play to the best of their ability (I genuinely can’t imagine that they are ever not trying), and will only do what they’ve been coached to do or what comes instinctively to them, but fans sometimes need to take a look at their reactions and recognise they’re a) contradicting themselves, b) subscribing to a negative, old-fashioned, pessimistic style of play, and c) not helping the situation.

Inconsistency is fine. Poor use of subs and putting out the same formation every week, regardless of what injuries you have, simply isn't.

Well done AC last night you picked the best team available, got your tactics spot on and made the correct substitutions at the right times. 👏👏

21 more points and everyone can breathe easy.

We're not going down. The current bottom 4 are.

The older I get the more accepting I get and the more the ups and downs are smoothed out hence I'm a Crosby In guy as he's done a decent job, not stellar but not bad. Without a ton of money to spend, particularly on a striker(s), it's hard to score the goals to consistently be in the top 6.

The time to be changing the manager at this stage of the season is if Vale had been in the bottom 6 since the start, which has clearly not happened.

Problem is none of us know the full situation regarding players fitness to play.

It isn't a simple black and white situation of being fit or not fit to play

These days Vale play their fitness cards close to their chest and what may seem as 'clear' to us fans can often be far from the true situation.
