No vendetta here and yes I do appreciate the quality of players we have and the way we play. But come on, nearly 2 seasons knowing we have strikers not fit, not likely to play half a season and from January via a panic last minute signing of an unfit striker through to the Wilson debacle (who I incidentally like) and on to Lowe and now Uche - not good enough. Prices are extortionate (allegedly), no cash available (allegedly) and strikers at a premium but come on the DOF and crew should have done better in that department. Not rocket science.

The striker debacle is unbelievable. How do other clubs do it? Why is it always Vale who struggle to lock down a decent striker.

Crewe took a punt on Baker-Richardson from Newport, he's flying. Wimbledon signed Al-Hamadi from Wycombe reserves, they've now got a player on their hands being talked about at Championship level. Accrington seem to unearth a prolific striker every other season, Colby Bishop the latest off the conveyor belt.

My point being, non of these players would've cost the Earth when they were first signed. They would've all been well within our budget & our reach. Where are we scouting? Which leagues are we looking at? Are we scouting reserve games etc? The 2 x latest signings up top stink of desperation. A striker to add numbers in Ryan Loft  because we lost Ellis, & then Uche who was lying on a beach somwhere. I mean come on. Taking the piss.

Thank you mate, I was beginning to think it was me. It is staggeringly embarrassing to have a DOF and allow this situation to stagnate for so long, whatever the reasons. How many times have we watched 'lesser' budget teams at Vale Park or anywhere for that matter who appear to have forwards with more threat than ours?

Sometimes you've just got to take a punt on a striker who has the raw attributes you're looking for & then trust your coaching team to coach them.

We seem to almost be shopping for the finished article, which clearly isn't going to happen. We should be scouting pacey attackers from non league level who are at the right age to develop.

Why is it ludicrous?

It's ludicrous because - as we have seen so often in the past - there's no such thing as a certainty, with us! Just because we seemed to have the easiest path to the Q/F - those games still have to be won (...and won in good style)! How many times have we had "easy" Cup ties and let ourselves down - often, embarrassingly? How many times have we made Giantkillers out of non-League outfits?

Tony, I am happy that you have a different opinion to me. Personal attacks, not so much. Attack the post not the poster I believe is the saying.

I've not said anything that's not fact, or my personal opinion on a fact. I'd appreciate it if you didn't misconstrue what I wrote as 'made up'.

As per your comments on my opinion as to how the sacking was handled, my feelings remain. I'm not debating if it was the wrong decision, I don't think it was but perhaps it was the only decision. I didn't like the way the club handled things post sacking and up the appointment of the new manager. I think mistakes were made (we all make them) and they will come back to haunt us very soon. Hopefully, we can turn the corner and stay up - I think avoiding a relegation battle would be a successful season.

UTV

My response was to mr hobblesworth calling me weird and mental - not to you!

If I am attacked personally, I will always retaliate in kind...posters like Brian Johnson immediately spring to mind!

I don't think the club had any option in the way DC was sacked or the handling of this, bearing in mind they tried to not elaborate overmuch on what had actually happened. As I've posted, recently, if you don't allow upward promotions in a business, you give your employees nothing to strive towards! I'm ok with what we did; how we did it and the management team we have now. Time will tell - but with more than half a season to go, and players still to come back to fitness, we have to go to, at least, the January window to consider making any hasty choices?

You don't need to add "allegedly" to your comment  about strikers - we have seen reports on how much they cost, and their wages! Having to replace 2 GKs and upgrade defence and MF clearly used up most of the budget? Taking a chance on Wilson / Loft and Uche could have worked / failed or could still work? Uche will be a good signing- watch some videos of him playing...and scoring good goals...in the Championship! Rumours we were after Ryan Loft before we actually signed him - I don't recall many protests against this? DF and the rest of recruitment tried to bring in more goals with Alfie /. Josh Thomas / Ollie / Chizzy, and pushing Ben Garrity back into the position from which he did so well in our promotion season; and we added a couple of players we were told were dead-ball specialists. So, ues - recruitment was aimed at spreading goals around, rather than commit to an expensive striker. Maybe - if we do ok against 'Boro, and get through to the 3rd round FA Cup, and get a glamour tie, there will be cash to strengthen in January? But - everyone wants a 20-goals a season player, at the right price for their budget...including Prem sides!!!

If that was aimed at me - I don't give a phuq what people think, or how seriously they take me! Unlike others, my "weird one-man mission to defend the club" consists of challenging people who constantly lie, misconstrue, misunderstand or deliberately misquote statistics, events and their consequences! I don't defend the club about everything - but, neither do I stoop to the same level of insanity as some of our posters? What is a bit mental is people like you who side with the numpties and try to dismiss people quoting actual facts, rather than made-up ones! As you used to be told on a regular basis - bore off!

Amen to this. Well said

OK. And what if he did take a punt and it didn't work out. More pelters from "fans".

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't

You live & die by your recruitment. We're currently dying in forward positions. My point is that other clubs seem to unearth strikers at a fairly decent rate. What are they doing that we aren't?

There are loads of posts on Twitter from Derby fans after tickets. Notwithstanding all the other reasons  like Atmosphere Vale have potentially thrown away £20k+ from lost away revenue. From one game alone. Over the season perhaps circa £100k which could have paid a decent goal scorers additional wages. You do have to wonder sometimes

Spot on pal, the big move to the Hamil has killed any atmosphere we used to have, now we’re struggling to fill a ground for a big game. We have got a lot of things right but not selling out against a team like Derby doesn’t bode well for future games.
