January Transfers and Rumours

They may actually go up in price as selling club knows people will need strikers.  Last chance to make money from them.

As they say - trust the process.  😭

But, some will be out of contract in the Summer and clubs may take a smaller sum than risk him leaving for nothing?

2 positions that we are well covered- center back and center midfield. Everywhere else we have been short this season, certainly over indexed in center midfield.

Flitcroft used to be a center midfielder as a player, Crosby a Center defender. Any coincidence?

Hoping to play a faster system, bringing in a couple of extra midfielders to change things around made sense. As for the LWB position, Mitch Clarke could have played there, with talk of bringing Gibbo back...but, of course, Mitch is another first-choicer injured!

Head of Recruitment for a Scottish club

I think he’s scouting for one of the teams in Scottish Premier League.

Surely scouting for a Division one club would be a promotion for him then.

I thought that I have had today is that if we do not pick up form between now and January do you think Sheffield United & Tottenham would want their young players being demoralized & confidence dropping each week because we can't win games or even score goals?

They might pull them out of that situation to give them a break from it

Possibly Brian but on the other hand when things are not going well this is when you find out about the character of young players and determines if they can play at higher level.

I’d be more concerned a Champ club wants either player on loan and our loans are cancelled.

I can see why we wanted to get someone like Gibbo back in to the fold as we need competition on both sides of the pitch at wing back and players that could play full back if needed too. My understanding is that it was almost done but we couldn’t shift someone out of the club to make it happen. In addition I think it was either Yates or Sproson that said he was close to coming back in when they commentated on whichever away game it was just after the window shut. Now it looks like he’s in and out of the squad at Bristol it wouldn’t surprise me if we possibly went back for him. So for all our criticism of the recruitment process it does seem like we at least tried to address the wing back / full back issue, but couldn’t get it sorted. I’ve said before that if we can get decent fullbacks and wingbacks in that will give us 30+ appearances a season, who will also add some strength and depth to the squad then that’s the way we should be going because this season and last season that position has not been sorted.

I don’t like going for ex players but in the situation we are in I think Gibbo would be a great addition.  Ship Cass out and replace with Gibbo. Big upgrade that for me.

That nasty competitive edge is sorely missing in our team. I wouldn’t fancy our current squad to be able to battle out a relegation fight in March.

I think a left footer should be the priority in the window. Maybe we will resurrect the deal for Denver Hume?

What’s Foyle up to these days? For all of his faults as manager he could spot a striker.
Reading your first sentence, I was expecting you to suggest we resign him as a striker.

Let's be honest, he would probably do better than the current encumbants.

The issue and most bonkers thing about this club is we have set on a 3-5-2 or variation of that for three seasons now and yet never really signed enough wing backs that are specialist in that role, or when we have we haven't had the depth for that position which is most critical in the system we want to play... its bonkers, last season's lesson's were never learnt.

We spent two years with a winger there in Worrall who luckily for us did a job there, we never really got the left back set in the promotion season with Benning in and out, Hussey not quite at the level and Gibbons injured.

Last season we ended up with and out of form Mal Benning and no options to change it bar Sammy Robinson and this season we've lost both wing backs to injury so shoe horning wingers and midfielder's in there.

Its poor and crucial to rectify it in January.

For me, Devine is played for what he can do, not for what he has done. Until he is consistent he shouldn’t be starting.

If it’s consistency you are waiting for, then nobody would be starting, except maybe Loft who is incredibly consistent. Consistently crap.

Wonder where we would be with peak Gibbo and Worrall playing down the right, not saying we should have them back now but we're worse in those positions at the moment

Let’s say we had signed him back as we intended in August, we would have been rotating between him, clark, grant, Massey and plant as wingbacks. More options between the 5 of them. More options to go 4 at the back in a game if needed and also less load on players like Clark and Grant. Either way we need to be recruiting for the wingback position come January whoever it is that we bring in.

Woz legs had gone. He’s only started half of Barrows games.
