Match Thread - Port Vale v Lincoln City

Ok, I'll take the bait for a change. What, exactly, do your no doubt insiders allege that the management team tell them to do during a match?

Come on you don't honestly believe that professional football teams go out on the pitch and decide on their own what they want to do. The players have their designated jobs at corners, free kicks, goal kicks and throw ins. Not to mention roles in relation to other players within their side like doubling up or covering when someone pushes on or when the oppostion have the ball... amongst other things. They also go out there with a basic gameplan too.

Its fairly simple how we set up to play isn't it. Try to get the wingers and full backs in to the game and get crosses in to the box. If they can't do that, lump it up and play off the second ball.

Thats why we were totally stuck at Colchester, they had their wingers dropping back to kill our space out wide, so our only tactic was to launch it. We don't have players who can play through teams from the midfield.

Look at the Cambridge game, our gameplan was to play on their debutant right back with long balls up to Pope dropping on to his side or trying to get Monty at him and it worked.

Sounds a bit like Bury?

I guess the difference is Bury owe the money to people not connected to the club and will definitely want their money back. Colchester owe the money to people who might be prepared to take a hit on it.

I discovered why today - he's on £4k a week at Lincoln.

Doesn't surprise me, 210k a year is a lot of money. May well be more after goal bonuses are included. My understanding is Aspin was reluctant to carry on with the Dennis deal because of the percentage of the budget his wages would cost. Someone must be pumping significant money in to Lincoln.

Lincoln made a fortune from the run to the FA Cup quarter finals, 18 months ago. Included TV money against Ipswich and Arsenal.

They also sold a player to Norwich for a tidy sum. Coupled with sell out crowds of 9000 every home game they are a club very much on the up.

Strange one really as like many Vale fans here i have been to Sincil Bank when there has been about 3000 maximum crowd and they used to bring 150 to Vale.

Now they bring 468 for an evening cup game to watch them.

A club with momentum, and whilst i hate their way of playing and gamesmanship and nigglyness ( is that such a word ? ) , they are ideally positioned to have a crack at promotion and even go up as Champions.
