We seem to have played a lot of pre season friendlies this year. How does it compare to the amount of games we normally play?

I usually enjoy going to pre season games as it's a good chance to hear what players, coaches and the manager are saying (or not saying in the case of the quiet players).

I've only managed to make the Blackburn fixture this time due to holidays. I had an excellent night last season when we thumped Newcastle midweek.

As an observation, we don't win many football matches whatever the competition, significance or insignificance of the match. We need a settled spine of the team and I hope Aspin implements this over the first ten games of the season and gives the team a chance to settle. This pre season seems to have been haphazard in terms of team selection and team formation. The experiments are fine early doors but I would have hoped that at this stage the team personell and formations were beginning to be established for all to see.

So far, I think the spine will be:

Brown

Smith

Joyce

Pope

 

The other seven choices seem to be very much up in the air at this stage!

Here's hoping for a solid start to the first ten games with a settled team where players know their roles within the formation with a plan b if it is required in matches.

Would imagine Miller will get minutes, Aspin could possibly arrange a behind closed doors game midweek to give him more minutes too if desperate for him to start Saturday.

 

Oyeleke could get a few minutes I suppose. Maybe mainly the youths also.

I liked what I saw of Benns tail end of last season, at Cambridge I think, was one of the very few positives from that game.
