Neil Aspin says Ryan Boot may get chance in FA Cup game

I remember a cup match at Shrewsbury, due to injuries we had to play the 3rd choice 17 year old keeper, he played in the replay as well, but never in the league for the Vale. 10 years later after a few more clubs he was transferred to Spurs for £100k, and won a FA Cup winners medal, Milija Aleksic. Could something similar happen to Boot?

Ah right - didn't know that. But I think you're right - if there is concern that playing him now may effect Ryan Boot then surely it would effect someone even younger and more inexperienced in Slinn.

For me, the young players need to be left on loan. The Nathan Smith approach would be great in that - a loan spell in the lower reaches first off (i.e Stalybridge as now) and then look to get Slinn into a National League side (or perhaps National League N or S) for the whole of next season.

No point rushing him in and ruining his career by bringing him too soon.

I wonder if there are any experienced free agents out there though?

I think we can recall Slinn because the new loan rules don't apply to that level of football.

But the situation we are in is a farce. Obviously if Boot goes above 5 games then we can't get anyone else in which means we have to stick with him in goal once he's past that amount.

Yesterday's keeper was a horror show and having to get in a keeper without seeing him play is a terrible situation to be in and I'd say he was worse than what we've got as our number 2 keepers.

But have Aspin or Rudge seen Slinn play? Truly a nightmare situation. Is the only choice extensive defensive area training this week, was it a case of nerves on Saturday?

What gets in my craw over this goalkeeping situation is that the exponents brought in on loan are also inexperienced with few, if any, competitive games. So why not play our own inexperienced players ? Seems little point employing players if you’re NEVER going to play them. It is now BEYOND a joke and needs serious consideration.

Slinn has also been injured since mid September! Made his first appearance since then yesterday.

Mentioned before by several posters: Ross Turnbull

No idea if he's still interested in playing for anyone, let alone a struggling L2 side, but even if he is, could we could afford him?
