Port Vale deadline day discussion

Emile, what evidence do you have for the above post.

When the players who were with PVFC in May 2016 were fit they were virtually always chosen to start in their respective positions over all Bruno's overseas signings so how could Bruno's squad be a better group of players than last season. This time last season Vale were a goal scoring forward away from making a play off push not 5 points away from a relegation spot.

Hi Paul,

I believe the best thing to do would be compare the players directly, one in and one out.

AJ Leitch Smith VS Anton Forrester - Forrester everyday 0 - 1

Theo Robinson VS Regino Cecila - 2 in 14 vs 4 in 20 - 0 - 2

Louis Dodds vs Quintin We dont have a creative mid come in to replace Dodds, so Im saying 1 - 2

Byron Moore vs Jerome Thomas - Debatable, but 1 - 3

Michael O Connor vs Paulo Tavares - O-Connor did nothing last season but still wins it - 2 -3

Carl Dickinson vs Kiko - I suppose you could say were short a strong left back. 3 - 3

Richard Duffy vs Knopps - Duffy was dire, part of one of the worst defences in the country. 3 - 4

Ryan Innis vs Mac-Intosh - When Innis played he was great. 4 - 4

Chris Birchall vs ADF - 4 - 5

Chris Neal vs Santos - Santos did nothing 5 - 5

Ryan Mcgivern vs Ryan Taylor - 5 - 6

Colin Daniel vs Shalaj - basically a draw as both usless 6 - 6

Enoch Andoh vs Mbamba 7 - 6

Achile Campion vs Paterson - Paterson wins on goals but both poor 7 - 7

Uche Ikpeazu vs Alex Jones - both early loan signings 7 - 8

Matt Kenedy vs Sam Hart - Kenendy did ok but 8 - 8

Jak Mcourt vs Amaros 8 - 9, Mcourt didnt even get a game.

So on balence, with regards to squad players, it's pretty close. But for first 11 I think we would all agree that the indivudal players are better, let me know if you disagree?

Forgot to mention Smith and Streete who were basically new signings vs last season in the amount of games played.

As you've laid it out I would pick AJLS over Forresters on goals scored and injury issues for the latter and take Theo over Cecilia, I just don't rate Cecilia, he's doesn't hold the ball up, isn't a target man, doesn't head the ball well, has no pace, he's awkward and has a flick in him but he needs much more to his game. I would take Duffy over Knopps as he was an organizer and a talker important in any defense. McGivern and Taylor are two different players but Taylor has been effective for Vale. Shalaj has hardly played so I'd pick Daniel but both questionable. Campion was more of a development player and one for the future so unfair to compare him with an experienced pro.

So I see it the other way ie, the squad in May was better than the squad assembled by Bruno post May but no question, opinions do differ.

However, my point is that Bruno signed too many overseas players who turned out to be not good enough for Lge 1 and Vale have to pay these players 'til their contracts run out.

This is the dilemma, as I think taking AJLS, Daniel and Duffy would be crimes against football.

Thomas and forrester...what relevance does that have?

Forrester was signed by the Chairman according to what he has said. Thomas was the only one I could think of. It just shows how good Bruno's signings were if you are looking forward to seeing one of them!

I can't take you seriously after those comments, aj was **** and has since proven it at Chesterfield. Theo didn't even score as many as reg but you would take him over him because you don't like reg as muc???

I didn't like Constantine but wouldn't choose Richards over him.
