Personally I'd like to see us try and keep hold of Smith until the end of the season. I think he'll be worth more with a full League 1 season under his belt.

There certainly seems to be an issue around Purkiss.

 

If we can get Alex Jones signed, get Ryan Taylor signed, get a wedge for Nathan Smith, and get in an experienced CH to replace him then I'd say that's a more-than-reasonable bit of business by Norman.

I'd presume that but the way Rowett was talking about Jones, it seemed he'd be happy to get him off the books so I'm not so sure.

They do not see him as being Championship quality and have better striker prospects within the club, it makes business sense to move such players out especially if they can get a small fee, even a sell on clause maybe involved.

I don't think it would cost us much at all, as he isn't yet proven and was on his way out a few months ago. Good strategy to try and prise him away now rather than wait until he's reached 15 goals (with a bit of luck) and his price tag goes up.

I hope Jones takes note of what's happened to a few of our players in recent years who think the grass is greener and they can do better instead of realising there is an awful lot to say for stability and staying where you are valued.

I imagine any fee would be small and Birmingham would just ask for a sell on clause is included so if we do get decent money for him in the future they get a cut.

I assume Birmingham will take the first decent offer for Jones, so if we do want buy him we'll have to be fast, as i would imagine he'll be in demand.

This would be the best scenario.... but I can't see Grant signing under any circumstances, I'm afraid. If we can't sell him for a reasonable fee in January, I think he'll just sit on his contract until it expires in the summer.
