Making a rod for his own back I reckon, so anything below playoffs next time is a failure then?

The bloke can't win.

What's he supposed to say, come on everyone, buy a season ticket and we'll aim for just outside the play offs? Can imagine the queues down Hamil Road after he comes out with that one. I'm sure you'd be one of the first to criticise him saying he has no ambition.

Oh dear.

McGivern, Duffy, Birchall, Johnson, Daniel, Yates, Moore, Lloyd and Campion need to go.

Johnson (unless he has improved concentration while on loan), Lloyd, Campion need to go as I don't see any of them as a reasonable squad or first 11 player. Moore is supposed to be a high earner, I could imagine keeping him on reduced terms but I think he wouldn't accept them. My guess is he earns too much at present to just be a good bench warmer.

We need to improve at centrehalf, but I wouldn't complain if one of McGivern or Duffy was offered a contract on reduced terms to be a squad player.

Last season I was against keeping Yates and Birchall. My view now is it depends on what they are being paid. I don't groan when they are picked and both have done ok covering for injuries. My guess is they are probably on a third or less of an O Connor, Purkiss, Dicko or Foley. The manager's call really is does he want 14 first 11 players and 6 squad players, or 16 first 11 players and no squad players. Before the number of substitutions allowed was increased Rudge was very successful running a very small squad at times. Now with a match day squad of 18 and allowing for 3 or 4 injuries you maybe need 20 - 22 players in a squad who can at least do a job. If you go for a squad of 16 you might get lucky and have no injuries, pretty much this year Leicester have pretty much got through this year with 14 players, the other rest of their squad have only made 18 starts all season (although they have used 32 players in total).
