Forum Display Issues - Pls Read

What was the reason for the change?

Do you think much has improved?.

I don't tend to make changes to not improve things - I was trying to add a new feature and failed this time ;)

Honest mistakes will happen especially on a part-time, hobby site.

Hopefully this will get resolved but it may take a little time. Sorry for any inconvenience caused!

I'm using Google Chrome Version 46.0.2490.80 m on Windows 7. The text size is larger and looks odd.

Yes, that's a temporary fix.

You're currently all on the "Large Font Accessibility" forum theme because that was the only one that worked. I have been struggling with other things but I hope to make the font a "regular" size soon.

OVF PROBLEMS? Hopefully many of the issues have gone away. However, to make the forum work some features have been switched off and we have a slightly altered design. Please try a hard refresh (CTRL plus F5) If you still have display problems. If things don't clear up please let me know via this forum thread

Forum Display Issues - Pls Read

I have made a change to the forum and it seems to be affecting some users.

If you have a problem can you please reply to this thread telling me:

1. What the problem is

2. What browser version you user (e.g. Firefox v*.*) You can find this through Help > About

3. What operating system

4. Any screenshots appreciated too

I can't replicate the problems so I need all the above so I can try and work it out. In the meantime, sorry for any inconvenience caused!

I think some code was deleted by mistake and until I can replicate the issue I cannot fix. I'll try and fix it ASAP but I am not sure how long that will be at time of writing...

Do you mean Google Chrome browser? Do you know what version? And do you know if it's the mobile display (which wouldn't have avatars) or the regular display? Thanks.

It appears that the problem is now only affecting Mac users using Safari.

If this isn't right and you are getting problems with some other operating system can you let me know on here.

If you're a Mac user - you may want to upgrade your version as that may help. If not, please bear with me as this may take some time (days) to resolve. I am sorry for any inconvenience caused!

hi rob firefox 41.0.2 on windows vista

Hi,

It's all very strange. It works on some and not others (even some with the same browser as me). I think it may be down to caching so I'll look at switching that off although it may be 24-48 hours to do.

I've made a completely new theme so it should display fine as before which makes me think the caching is corrupting the display (i.e. it chaches before the theme has fully downloaded).

In the meantime, if you have problems can you try logging out of your account and back in. You should be seeing a new theme (the way to tell is that the notice at the top - if it says "you are using the old style" your theme hasn't updated to the new one. Can anyone with problems tell me if they can see that notice?

Also - my first appeal - if you are good at CSS and are willing to help, please get in touch as I may need a second pair of eyes on this.

Thanks,

Rob

Extremely slow to load up, lots of duplication of threads, incoherent layout. Sorry just don't like it; why was it necessary to change the previous layout?

It wasn't a change - something went wrong! The new layout was a last resort to try and fix things not a style preference.

UPDATE:

What seems to be happening at the moment is the style sheet (which controls the layout) isn't loading properly for some people. That is causing the weird layouts, strange columns and so on.

The actual stylesheet works when you can get it to but I am increasingly thinking that a site cache (designed to keep OVF up during busy periods) has caused the problem. I think it's caching people's pages and only partially loading the stylesheet and that's why some see the correct forum layout and some don't.

I am talking to my hosts to get the caching system removed and I think that will make a big difference. Depending on when they come back to me it could be a few hours to 24 hours to remove it.

Sorry in the meantime for any inconvenience caused.

Rob

I'm in the process of taking the cache off. I really hope this solves the issue. It can take up to 48 hours but I would recommend that anyone suffering problems tries a hard refrech (CTRL+ F5) to remove any version cached on your browser. You may also want to log out and back in.

I'm really hoping this will start to solve the issues. :fingerscrossed:
