Smurfs statement.

Unbelievable! Smurf now knows how difficult it is running our great Club.

Now has to be the correct time(as discussed on other threads) for ALL parties to come together and thrash out why it's not possible for Vale fans to utilise Hamil Road end? Come on everyone arrange fruitful meetings to get these problems sorted. In the long run the financial help to Vale has to be paramount and all these ludicrous decisions are setting Vale back incessantly financially.

Whether some of our hardened fans like it or not Smurf has to now give full and considerable thought to reducing all these idiotic decisions against Vale and honestly look into Hamil being ours again and all safety considerations explored to house the few away fans that visit us for the majority of the season! We are being penalised each and every way we turn for what?..... a handful of away fans!!

My sympathies are with you Norman.

I wonder if there is any way any room to appeal. If so I'm confident he will be looking into it,seeking legal advice.

One of the many crazy things with these demands is I think that the fact that a fence is now between the fans actually to some extent encourages trouble. The sixteen year olds get braver and mouthier as they now have protection from the opposition fans as there is a fence between them. This will be widely reported by the police and will justify it being a permanent fixture.

As much as I resent the Police dictating orders to the club, I do feel that the changes made should've been implemented years ago and will go a long way to preventing flash points after the final whistle.

However, to make these requests for Doncaster (yet again based on 'intelligence' which will no doubt be very inaccurate) is ludicrous. This all should've been done in the close season.

The Police, it seems - and in my opinion, would have acted similarly in the close season to result in the same situation we have now.

In the short time SMURF has been part of our football family and lives he has dramatically changed the way Port Vale operates, and no doubt Bon'Ami his energies were just as fevered in the close season researching the past, improving the now, and shaping our future.

There is no need to develop the land though. The building is already there and could pull in £25K a month rent. The car park is already there and we could use it to avoid having to make other changes. The land wouldn't really depreciate but would be a saleable asset. I have heard that a company is already planning to move in and run a business from there, not sure if they have bought the land though.

25k an month in Burslem. I think someone has been watching homes under the hammer for too long. :)

I can't see there being. a long list of takers as its hardly the most desirable location. A few years ago maybe a supermarket would want it, but not now. Most likely make a nice housing estate for a developer.

The only business use I could see would be a call centre. Yet all of these would want the carpark for their staff on a Saturday of course. Not many 9-5ers these days.

Don't see the obsession with wanting away fans moved.

There wouldn't be another home game with any sort of spice or atmosphere ever again. How far away is the Bycars!?

From the home fans in Railway?

Well once upon a time fans used to move from one side of the railway to the other, but sadly they don't do it anymore. And anyway, this season the away fans are a million miles away because they are put on the Lorne Street side of the Hamil End.

That's not the only revenue. You're not paying £1.2m for a car park so you can simply restore Tommy's to a "home" pub. It's got the potential for industrial units, perhaps residential, the ability to increase the footprint of the ground plus the car park revenue. To me, personally, it's a no brainer to get that land.

Okay, for a start Hanley has been leveled and there is huge areas of land with better access and transport links available in the city and the mine shafts make it dodgy at best for residential. The land is a weight around the neck of a developer.

As for increasing the footprint of the ground that makes no sense: we have too much room as it is! Why on earth would we spend the equivalent of half our wage budget on a lame duck?

I think it's time to let home fans use the Hamill road and implement away fans in the unfinished Lorne street with restricted allocation. Get the coaches to park on the Lorne Street.

It seems to me Carl that the police have a differing view i.e. what SMURF wants and what the Police want are very different

"Vale Social on designated games, starting tomorrow with the game against Doncaster Rovers, will be an away fan venue only."

So vale fans can't have a match day drink in their own bar/pub/social club? Am I reading that right?

I'm afraid so.
