Good explanation from Pope... People were crying out for him to play without seeing him train or considering his all round game.

 

Great example of people being suckered in by one statistic and assuming they know best.

Speculating is fine but some of the negativity towards Page for not playing him was quite frankly ridiculous and beneath contempt.

 

I remember someone saying after he scored against Bradford it was proving Page wrong, the same Page who put him in when the time was right!!

Fans are can be very passionate and very interested in the team selection, tactics and to which players are not up to it. E.g. they know which defenders are not up to it and which midfielders/forwards are too slow, perhaps overweight etc.

What they don't know is why some players just drop into the team automatically when there are better choices available, especially when a player has been out injured or suspended.

 

They do know when a team is playing below the standard that they expect from a club as big as the Vale who should be knocking on the door of promotion and not losing to smaller clubs with less potential and weaker teams, such as Crewe and Barnsley.
