Points Target

I know its a bit early in the season and the team has exceeded my expectations, I wondered what everyone thinks will be an achievable target for the season.

At the moment we have 29 from 19 games and our next games are Stevenage at Home, MK Dons away, Rotherham at Home, Notts County at Home.

If we beat Notts & Stevenage and draw the 2 others we will end the year on 37 from 23 which I think is fantastic.

If we replicate this return in the second half of the season, we will accumulate 74 points which may well get us into the play-offs.

IMO Wolves & Posh or Brentford will go up with Preston, Orient, and 1 other for the play-offs.

Could that be us?

Thoughts please.........

Only if we beat Salisbury in FA cup round 2 and draw a plum tie with Replay, TV, etc. Micky will then have funds to get us a few extra quality players if we keep around where we are around end of January. Otherwise we will be around 55-65 point mark by end of the season and short of play-offs because at moment there are better teams who will finish in play-off positions.

I agree with George-if we beat Salisbury & get a decent draw then we may be able to strengthen the squad.

Bonuses so far IMO have been Lines, Robbo & I think Dicko is just starting to find some form.

Tomlin is also a boost & todays result without our no 1 keeper & captain was a great result.

I also think that the first season in a new division is where we are a bit of an unknown quantity & I feel that our home results are the key to determining where we will finish, I certainly think we have performed q well at home in patches-Coventry 2nd half, Shrewsbury 1st half.

To win 5 away games at this stage is tremendous & to be 12 pts above relegation after 19 games is another great effort.

I had targeted 25 points after 23 games (after Rotherham at home) we are now four points past that with four to go so I'm seeing that as less to get in the second half to get the magic 50. Once we get to 50 assuming we do then I we can focus on the 70 plus mark if the games are left to do it. We should be looking for a minimum of six points before the half way mark with Stevenage and Notts at home, Rotherham will be tough as will MK although they are in free fall at the moment.

Put it this way, 7 wins in 27 games will keep us up :)

Putting it that way, that should be easily do-able.

We seem to struggle against the lower teams for some reason so the next couple of home games will put a better light on our season so far,but up to yet it's fantastic.

What games have you been watching this season?

We've looked comfortable against the lesser teams in this division this season, but have looked largely out of our depth against the top 5 or 6.

Gillingham, Tranmere, Crewe and Shrewsbury spring immediately to mind.

I think you are getting ahead of yourselves to be talking about play offs and points tallies. We are having a great run at the moment, but could just as easily have a dire run for 10 games or so. Remember the run in to last season, and 'crawling' over the line in the end!?

It's good to see us seemingly settled in this league and being competitive. Let's see how far that takes us, and be prepared for some downs as well as ups, without too many tantrums on OVF when we are having a 'down'.
