Burslem also has few shops at the moment and one of the few of our towns not to have one of the "big three" supermarkets if we could do car boots on a Sunday as well as happy days. Feathers ton car boot does up to 300 stalls on a Sunday at a fiver not big money but 52 weeks a year money not to be sniffed at

Now a car boot might just be easy money for the club. There is a huge one avery Saturday down here just outside Exeter and it brings in shedloads...the site isn't used on any other day so it would be dead land except for this

Can you compare little old Burslem with Manchester and Birmingham...I know people will travel but personally I think you're comparing apples and oranges

 

It is indeed but we won't be spending anything on property it's nil risk not getting into another business debate just thought it might be one idea .

 

 

Where is the market research to back up such a claim..that should be the starting point for any retail venture

There is always risk...

 

Cost of application and any improvements required to make the application successful

 

Reputational risk..Vale (Smurf) will look stupid if no one turns up and he does not strike me as the kind of man who likes to look stupid

 

Risk of not using the time/location for something else that would earn some dosh..you go for option A and so you're ruling out B,C and D

 

 

There should be a feasibility study/market research carried out at last before starting. Maybe there is a very good reason there aren't many shops in Boslem nor a 'major' supermarket?

What about holding car shows, car auctions etc from the site.

 

Any specialist show could be held there and bring in additional revenue. Getting that Euro Funfair on the site in the close season of summer could also be a valid idea.

Trust me, a traditional market in Burslem would fail, if something innovative can be introduced then we should look at it.

As an exile, the only continental markets I have seen locally have been in the middle of Leicester in the pedestrian precincts, virtually a captive audience, are they held in Hanley. The only advantage I see is free parking. Farmers markets seem to be in similar locations. Car boots may work, better than a muddy field.

Burslem ( like Stoke ) is fast becoming a haven for night life and both towns will soon start benefitting in the daytime also ?

 

I drive through it every single day so i suppose you are right to a point

Burslem hasn't got a market now, so it would bring people closer to the town centre if not in it, and the vale market always attracted a good crowd as did the boot.

You may be correct bookworm but i would doubt it tbh as like i said earlier good markets are away from any shopping areas.
