might be worth starting a campaign to bring it back, Vale market was legendary at the time.

We are great at campaigning. Don't think we would have to tbh smurf with smurfs business power. The council should look at it as helping burslem s regeneration.

We should get it back then really support it we should the campaign to ban the supermarket and shop at the vale ( Mary portas style)

Come on smurf bring back the market.

Rush through planning permission start it ASAP 150 k in the bag

Spin offs from it would be endless would do wonders for the sportswear side of our new store also

I have just passed on your idea to Ally the Sc Chairperson and she is passing it on to Smurf.......Good idea....All stalls including a Vale one........

I wonder now that we have had great support from the City Council whether they will react more positively to a request from PVFC for a weekly market at Vale Park. Whilst waiting to have my hair cut a couple of weeks ago, the chap in front of me, prompted by the hairdresser, spouted out that the only one to blame for the closure of the market was Bill Bell. This chap was apparently in charge of planning for the council at the time. He said that the concern was that vehicles were delivering goods to the stalls by driving through the shoppers and that this practice was not deemed safe. Bill would not change things hence the closure. Whilst this sounds too simplistic to me, IF this is true, then surely that problem is not insurmountable. The old argument of it affecting trade in Burslem surely cannot be used. What trade? Go for it Smurf.

Markets are a thing of the past and it won't now be the same as it was IMO.

Your so right tosh, in the 80s and 90s markets were massive, I worked in the industry for years, you only have to look at the indoor and outdoor markets in our area alone to see how they have declined. The big supermarkets sell everything now and they are competing with the likes of aldi and liddle who in turn are up against poundstretcher and home bargains and pound shops, in the 80s you couldnt buy a dinner set in the super market, times have changed. Sorry folks but you will never see a market around here again like the old vale market or wass, s market, vale could try a car boot but there are a few of them about.

Then we need to support it and market it. Also something unique always works with a market. Ones with organic or farmers sections included really work.

If you think they are a thing of the past visit Manchester or birmingham s continental markets they are rammed.

Markets featuring Eastern European specialists also work really well

I would create streets of stalls ie farmers produce street, fancy goods street, continental street to make navigation by customers easy.

We need to build a unique new concept of fresh produce, fancy goods and fashion.

Build it and they will come ...................

Given the plethora of 'pound shops', supermarkets selling everything under the sun at low prices, the likes of Lidl and Aldi etc I can't see a demand for markets any more..maybe, just maybe a weekly farmers market might do something but would it be large enough to earn anything for Vale? Doubt it.

Can you compare little old Burslem with Manchester and Birmingham...I know people will travel but personally I think you're comparing apples and oranges

Where is the market research to back up such a claim..that should be the starting point for any retail venture
