Port vale market

Recommended Posts

You may be correct bookworm but i would doubt it tbh as like i said earlier good markets are away from any shopping areas.

How long ago was it now.....25 years ?

just been to the harriers car boot, plenty of stalls and a good crowd, a farmers market once a month ands a weekly allsorts would bring the crowds in, tosh said markets are dead, he's never been to penkridge then, if thats a dead market then my p****s a bloater.

Sandbach Thursday market is being moved from the Common Car Park to the high street and cobbles because of dwindling stall numbers. However 2 markets are run on alternate Saturdays in the month a Farmers market and an Artisan market both appear to be doing well. If permission could be granted for a Farmers / Foody and small independent producers market then maybe it would be different enough to be successful. The Farmers market at Rode Heath is tremendous.

A vinyl record stall, a Vale memorabilia stall, Smurf toys stall, second hand pottery items, sweeties, oatcakes, and endless other goodies, it would be great. No, markets need not be finished, come on let's get it back !

Program Fair? Could the concourse in the Hamil be used for indoor events? Don't know the size of it, maybe a silly idea.

Town center markets are dying, hanley indoor is a wasteland, burslems roof collapsed, you cant get around stokes for the tumbleweed... Fleetwood market used to be very busy, if you were lucky enough to get an outside stall you had to wait about 6 years for a chance to buy an indoor from the occupier, now you can just roll up and get inside.

The continental market never seemed busy in stoke but it was in hanley but then the people were already there. They were offering free stalls to meat and veg merchants when I worked burslem... no takers... I pulled out of hanley market when the rents went up [again] and the footfall declined, £250 a week just wasnt viable and most of the butchers pulled out too.

Car boot may work, loads of people go to try to find a flambe vase for £1 but markets dont have the pull they used to have... some do... usually the ones that involve a day out and a spot of lunch... but who would come to burslem for a day out? I suppose the correct question to ask is who would come a second time for a day out?

quote from Fossse - Program Fair? Could the concourse in the Hamil be used for indoor events? Don't know the size of it, maybe a silly idea.

Not a silly idea at all - a GREAT idea, and there are many programme fairs up and down the land. To make it special though, all Vale memorabilia could be included and also stuff from other clubs, such as shirts, autographed items, mugs, dare I say coasters, and a lot more. Auction off some of the better items and the whole thing would be a success.

Other possibilities - use Tommy Cheadles for Bingo / Poker Nights / race Nights / Quiz Nights.

Hold a knockout quiz for supporters of all the league clubs - I believe the vale team did well in one of these that was nationally organised in the 90s.

Kids treasure hunt round the ground?

It's got to be worth pushing for Borslem has nowt at the moment but good pubs, t**s F***y and the Vale. If the council could see further than the end of their nose. They would see it would rejuvenate Boslem town to everyones benefit.

The supporters club need to bring it to the Smurf's attention.

It's probably in the Council's best interest to let Burslem rot tbh, the same goes for Stoke. Not that they'd admit that and they'd be daft to but having polycentric city like we do, does the city no favours imo.

The club needs another income stream so all ideas are worth a second look, farmers markets always work when local produce is on sale, specialist markets do well, penkridge market sells just about everything and is thriving, if you don't try you wont get anywhere. Motor shows ,coin and stamp fairs, antique fairs, vale park is a big area and should have attractions several times a week, book and magazine fairs, auctions, fun fairs during school hols, pokemon fairs, model aircraft and boat fairs, the list is endless, scooter rally, bike rally, owners club rallies make the place pay for itself, etc, etc, etc.
