Have to say, I phoned for tickets etc a few times towards the end of last season and that number added about 25 quid to my bill.
It's because they are classed as 'premium' numbers. 0871, 0845 etc. They're normally used because the Company get's a cut out of the charges. We're with Virgin and we also have to pay to dial that type of number. There is a website where you can find alternative numbers for the premium numbers but i'm struggling to remember what it is! Just googled it and it's www.saynoto0870.com. Having said that it couldn't find an alternative number for the Club.:( Sorry for the lack of paragraphing. OVF still won't let me do it

Those numbers typically "forward" to the standard 01782 number.

What you need is someone at the club or BT to obtain the 01782 number and then post it on that website. That is typically how it seems to work these days. BT won't tell you numbers over the phone and most companies want to hide he local number as these don't make them the 5p per min or something like that from each call.

Didnt know that thanks.

But if some people can't/struggle to get through using a non 08?? number when they want to buy tickets etc then some might not bother after a few attempts. So then the club could lose out that way.Cant see that that the club would make much money from using a 08?? number against a normal 01782 number.

Maybe its something that the SC could look into(if they have not already done so) and ask about when they next meet the Smurf.

Dear Norman,

It seems like you have a look on this forum from time to time. All the best at the Vale and I'm looking optimistically towards next season, thanks for your part in that. On the subject of the new premium rate phone number for the ticket office; I was a bit shocked when it appeared on my bill for what amounts to the cost of a match ticket. For my part, it may be the difference between getting a ticket or not at some point in the future and I'd urge you to reconsider whether having it as a premium rate number will be of net financial benefit to the club.

Kind Regards,

V62
