Dodds leaves?

"Nearly" men, who cant hold down a first team place every week yet can come off the bench and change a game and consistantly hit roughly 10 goals a season from midfield, are not easy to come by.

Doddsy is a great asset to the squad and not just for his football.

Should he leave he would be massively missed, especially within the dressing room.

Bang on the money Spunkers. I spoke to Doddsie a couple of weeks ago and he was very keen to re-sign. Louis loves the club and recently told the Senile that he has been at the club for the last five years and wants to stay for the next five years!

I hope you are right OS. Letting Dodds go to one of our rivals would be a big mistake. Please stay Louis !

Simply from a skill and ability point of view Dodds is one of the best/most talented players at Vale certainly through our 5 years in the bottom tier imo. The kick and rush style and sometimes physicality of some teams doesn't suit his game. I too think he has it in him to come good all be it at a higher level. That may seem odd to some but it does happen in football.

Isn't his missus a native of Stoke? so I think he'd be inclined to stay if he's wanted and his offer is ok.

We can't afford to lose another goalscorer. I think Dodds could be one of those players who actually plays better when in a higher division. He is one of the few value players with the ability to show a touch of class.

Last time it was rumoured he was leaving, we had loads of people offering to give him a lift. Where are they now?

I couldn't agree more. There is no doubt he has quality but we don't see it often enough. He is a 'nearly' man.

Totally agree goes missing when the chips are down and is a 1 good game in 4 man. Read into what Adams and a few other managers say about League 1- consistency is the key. For that reason and that reason alone players like Dodds should be shown the door. We need to bring in 4-5 consistent players at that standard to have a sniff at a mid-table finish.

So suddenly we have a new budget for these 4-5 consistent players, who if were consistent would not therefore probably be available. If MA thinks Dodds is worth a new contract in L1, then that is good enough for me. If we want consistency, we need to unearth new talent, we cannot afford to buy the finished article nor do we want someonelse's cast offs. In the meantime take what you have, Dodds is 100% Vale and chosen down the middle would be far more consistent than being farmed out wide.
